For Christmas, I received a Nook.  I am not very electronic oriented, so any clues would be helpful.   By one post above says, I will join the Lend in Nook, that is soon as I have some books to lend.  What are freebies mentioned in another post?

Every Friday Nook has a Free book....go to your nook & check Daily....see whats being offered then go to Shop & download it!  Also under Shop go to eBooks hit search [sm keyboard will pop up....tap on 123 then in box tap 0.00  you come up with TONS! of free books!  I discovered If you type in the 0.00 Mysteries all that shows is the Mysteries!  Saves time!!

I'm just getting started with my nook, and so far only have free ones also.  I would love to be part of the group!  I'm currently learning how to check the ebooks out of my public library and loving it.  (I'm catching up on some old ones written by authors I recently learned about on paperback swap.)  I sent a sign-up request on the yahoo site.    Carol

Just FYI, if anyone is interested, I will be hosting (if all goes well) a Nook LendMe swap.  Give me a few days and it will be open for sign ups.  This will only include LendMe books. Stay tuned...lol

I just signed up to the Yahoo group, too! Sweet! So far I only have the freebies, but it's only a matter of time...lol.

So, we can only lend each LendMe book out once, correct?

I am more interested in a PBS game swap like this than the Yahoo group. On the Yahoo group, it seems a lot like Freecycle where you can give, give, give but no guaranteee you'll ever get in return and that there are some who will wait for someone else to buy a book and then beg for the LendMe but never buy any themselves to share.

Yeah Nancy I understand what you're sayin'.

I think what would work for me is if I found someone to work with by saying - hey, I'll buy this book if you buy this other one.  Then we can lend them between us.

I guess it would work only if you knew what other folks had on their ebook WL.  It's too bad we can't make that WL page public like your Nook library.

Ooh, Jeanette! But we can with the Lists option! :)

We could set up a book list with the ones we have available for LendMe and then just post the link, or check out each other's profiles to see the lists.

The only problem with that is that there might be Nook titles that aren't in the PBS system. I just bought a 50 book classics collection that's available for LendMe, and I wouldn't be able to add that to my "LendMe List" here.

The Love and Romance forum has a Nook Lend Me thread where people list books they have to lend.  Maybe another thread in this forum would be a good idea.  It could be like the multiple WL books in the Book Bazaar people could list what what they have to share.  I would much rather share books with people here because I "know" you more then I "know" people on yahoo.

Yeah, Arica and Kelly I understand you both but then we'd just be back to what Nancy said with no way around it.

where you can give, give, give but no guaranteee you'll ever get in return and that there are some who will wait for someone else to buy a book and then beg for the LendMe but never buy any themselves to share.

where you can give, give, give but no guarantee you'll ever get in return and that there are some who will wait for someone else to buy a book and then beg for the LendMe but never buy any themselves to share.

I don't think there is anyway to prevent this completely.  The only way I can think of to stop that type of behavior is to not lend books to people who never post books that they have to share and what would you tell them if they asked for a book.  "Sorry I have never seen you lend a book therefore I am not going to lend you a book."  That would only work if you keep track of who is offering books and who is taking books.  There are always going to be people who just take.  The best solution is going to be to find a group of people with similar reading tastes as you and trade books amongst yourselves.  Otherwise you just will have to put your trust in the honor system that everyone is lending and receiving books.

I see what you're saying. Hmm...I dunno, lol.

When you lend a book out, is it still available for you to read during the lending period? Or is it unavailable to you for the 14 days? I just bought one I'd like to make available for lend, but not if I have to wait 2 weeks to read it myself. ;)

As the self-appointed moderator of the Yahoo group wink  I'll try to address the concerns.

where you can give, give, give but no guarantee you'll ever get in return and that there are some who will wait for someone else to buy a book and then beg for the LendMe but never buy any themselves to share.

This is true.  However, when someone offers to lend a book, it is completely up to him/her who they want to lend the book to.  If I offered a book and got 3 responses from people wanting to borrow the book, I would be more inclined to lend to a person who I have seen offering books.  In this way the community can police itself and not reward the mooches.

I would much rather share books with people here because I "know" you more then I "know" people on yahoo.

At this point the only people in the group are PBS members, and I will likely keep it that way.  The group is set up so that I manually approve each member, so if someone is not a PBS member they can't join.  So you are sharing with other PBS members.  The idea was to set up a forum outside of PBS for PBS members, since no one seems to be sure at this point how much if any ebook trading will be allowed here.

Or is it unavailable to you for the 14 days?

It is unavailable to you for 14 days, though the borrower can return the book early.

Hope this helps.  smiley

Thanks Elizabeth.

Good to know about the 14 days.  I'll just have to make sure that I've either read the book before lending or that I'm not in a rush to read it so it can wait until the lending period is over.

Ok, Elizabeth - thank you for the clarification on the LendMe period. That's a bummer because a girlfriend and I were planning on reading a book together and going in on it halves. Guess we'll have to read them a little off from each other. No biggie, but I don't like restrictions (lol).
