Looks like the update in April will make the Nook Color into your own little "iPad wannabe".

Maybe it's time to trade my Nook 3G in for a Nook Color after all!

I loved the Nook Color when I played with it in the store. Wish I had the money!

Nope, there's no stylus.  It's a touchpad so you use your fingers.

Yeah infact, I bought a stylus that said for use with the nook right on the cover and it does not work!

Good thing it was only $7

I wouldn't mind someone giving me a Nook Color ;)  I need the regular Nook for reading though.  I can't read on a backlit screen.

Same here but I feel guilty that it's a waste of money because I've had my Nook for only a year.  I have been saying that I don't need a NC because I read books on it and that's all.  But I've heard that it displays the shelves better and your lend books are displayed better for organization purposes.  I'll have to check it out at BN to understand.

I would want to use it for a tablet, to surf the web. The color is beautiful and I loved the touch screen. They did a really nice job with that.

To those wondering about reading with the back light.

I have never ever had trouble reading the nook color! In fact, the backlighting is one of my fav. features!

When reading an actual book I had to make sure I had a light on right where I was sitting, so I could see the words.

But with the back light you can have a dimmer light and still see! I don't see any glare at all.

Someone on a different site said there was glare, I'm not seeing it.

Also you can adjust the back light to very bright or to very dim, or maybe not at all (I'll have to check that out).

ALSO... you can change the color of the pages - gray, white, cream, etc. so just pick the one you can read best.

As well as changing the size of the print of course.

I can honestly say, there is nothing that I do not love about the nook color! It is the single best item I own, I love it more than my laptop!

And i do not work for B&N LOL.

If you have any questions please fell free to PM me.

Two questons on the NC:

Shelves - is it any different than the original Nook?  I make a shelf and I find the book and choose where I want it.  I don't know how the NC can make it any better/different.

Lending - I heard that it makes it very visible which books you've already loaned out so you can lend it again.  Does it separate your loaned books from your other books or does it separate the books with the "lendme" feature from the one's that don't.

Shoot, the BN website don't even do any of the above so it would be cool the NC had some features that enhance the shelves and lending areas.

Jeanette, I don't know what the shelves look like on a regular Nook so my attempt at describing the NC Library may be a case of a blind man trying to describe an elephant!  But here goes...

In the Library, there are 6 tabs at the top:

  1. Books - This is all books in your library.  You have the option of showing your books in several ways, each available to arrange by Date, Author, or Title: 3 rows of 3 books with large picture of cover displayed; or by date that you last accessed the books, also with large cover pic; or single book per row, showing large cover pic with description & rating; or small pic with title/author, single row, showing 6 rows.
  2. Magazines
  3. Newspapers
  4. My Shelves - This is where you can customize your own shelves (books by genre, date, etc.)
  5. My Files - Where library & other side-loaded books are located
  6. LendMe - All books which you own which are available for lending.  Books which have been borrowed from buddies are still listed in the main Book Library, showing they've been returned to Name-of-buddy, with an option to buy the book.

There's a Search Library bar near the bottom of the screen.  Below that are 2 button: the little open-book icon that is a short cut to the book currently being read and the Menu button that takes you to Library, Shop, Search, Extra, Web & Settings.

Don't know how any of this differs from a regular Nook, but hope my explanations were clear enough for you to differentiate the differences!

Wow that sounds really neat, being able to see the covers like that. I wonder when the price will drop on those (if ever!) I'll have to bide my time...

Anne, I really love being able to see the covers in all their colored-glory!  When DH was shopping for an ereader for me this past Christmas, this was one of the 2 big factors that decided him on the NookColor; I enjoy looking at the covers of books almost as much as I enjoy the content sometimes, ya know?

I'll cross my fingers that you'll get your hands on one soon. smiley

The Lendme tab alone makes it really really appealing!  It just goes to show that you shouldn't buy the first of anything these days <sigh>

I'm just gonna go ahead and put it on my WL for my family to know about.  Mother's day is coming up and my birthday is the following month.

I don't even care that there's no 3G on the NC cuz I never used the 3G on the one I have now.

Anybody know of a hospital or worthy place that I can donate my original nook? cheeky

Wendy, do you have trouble reading stuff on a computer monitor?  I do.  If I'm going to read anything that is longer than a screen, I print it because the backlit monitor screen makes things sort of dance around.  Even with the color that works best for my eyes (a pale green), I still have difficulty and cannot read a monitor screen for very long.  So I think the original Nook is still the best choice for me for reading.

Melody -

Sometimes I do have trouble reading on a comp screen. On my laptop I have the brightness turned way down. And I get a glare, for some reason on the nook color I don't see the glare.

with the nook it is is so easy to find the lighting and color that is right for you.

It might not work for you though! I wish it would!

I would say go to a B&N and play around with one (with changing the brightness and color of the pages) and see if it makes a difference,

Because it does with me!

Very happy to hear about this upgrade..helps me feel better..this is the most I've spent ever on a personal electronic device.  And I say personal as I'm the only one who really use's this in my family ..every other device tends to be shared around here lol.  As for a sylus to use hubby paid 20 dollars for the ipad stylus w/ a little rubber ball at the end that works pefectly on the NC as well as on our touch Ipod.  And as good as the ipod touch is I can't see myself reading ebooks on there...screen is to small and we don't want the ipad ...yet.  And to me the very best feature on the nook is the library.  No more late fee's, plenty of space to keep as many books as you can handle and I adore taking my books wherever I go.  Also have to say the clutter of my paperbacks being everywhere is gone..they are on their shelves where they belong although I admit to having not picked on up in a while.

Melody(sorry about that) -  Michelle, are you saying that you use the rubber ball on the end of the stylus for 'touch'?   I really like the look, etc., of the Nook Color, but I had both the sales clerk and myself laughing when I was trying it out in the store.  For years I've had a slight problem with essential tremors, and it has increased with age.  Most of the time, no matter how careful I try to be, the device reads my 'touch' as two or three taps -even trying to brush across rather than a straight tap.  So I never know where it's going to take me.  I'm wondering if something like your stylus (pencil eraser?) would work for me....

I had just read an article about Alex Kukinski's video - How to Root a Nook Color -  and wondered if it would be worth voiding the warranty to do something like that.  Obviously, his method was hugely successful, since B&N has now come out with the app., and what could be better than a SMALL tablet for half the price and NOT lose your warranty!

I'll have to go back to the store and 'play with it again.

Crazy Question!   IF the new update makes it a Tablet....  Does that mean you can download & use Amazon application on it also??
