During one eventful day, and through a series of flashbacks, the book explores the lives of an elderly woman, her mentally handicapped adult daughter, the 'other daughter', (lovely, successful, and increasingly the most responsible family member) and a young granddaughter on the verge of adulthood, who shares a special relationship with her handicapped aunt. Heartbreaking and at times almost hilarious, this is well written, insightful, and full of sudden and hard-won wisdom.
