Upfront, I will say that I normally do not like thrillers featuring mafioso characters. I was asked to do a review, so with gritted teeth I started where we all start .. page 1. That is literally all it took to get me hooked. I have read thousands of books over the years, mostly mysteries of one sort or another, and until today have never seen anyone describe in such intriguing words what shooting a bullet into a human person is like.
Yes, this book is about the mafia, the good, the bad and the very bad. It's also a personal journey for one lone undercover cop. Losing his best friend to the aforementioned bullet from an assassin, Alex Vaughn wants vengeance, only to find out that his friend may have been on the take. So who can he trust to help him?
The characters are very vivid, the action non-stop. I couldn't put the book down for any length of time because I needed to know what was going to happen next. I did not see the ending coming .... and, to me, that is part of why I really liked this book.
I'm definitely going to get Buffalo Soldiers which is next in this particular series. I highly recommend the book for anyone who wants that little bit more in what they're reading.....making the heart speed right up until the end.
