Is there anything one can do after the fact?

I ordered 2 books through the Wishlist Multiples post in the Books Bazaar recently. I went to start reading one and discovered it was an ARC but it was not listed as such. I had already marked them received. I messaged the member and asked for a credit returned but she said she got it that way and did not know but since she gave me a deal 3 for 1 deal from her normal bookshelf ( Total 5 for 3credits ) She thinks I got a good deal.. but truly it was 3 for 3 credits now that 2 are unpostable. One of those 3 was also unpostable (more than a 1" cover cut off the side) but I let it slide since I was happy with getting the 2 WLed books.

If she is not willing to resolve this issue whom can I notify about how she "falsely advertised" a book in the WL Multiples? Is there is nothing I can do is there a way to warn others of the kind of member she is since she offers deals?

Thank You,

Lisa

No, there is nowhere to do this. You will get into trouble yourself if you post her name anywhere associated with a complaint that you have.

Well, once you mark it received normally, you are kind of out of luck , because there is no incentive for the sender to fix an issue that is not officially against the sender's account.

The best thing to do is chalk it up to bad luck and check the books more carefuly before you mark them received. I think that happens to everybody at some point ... you just miss something that you wish you had noticed before you marked it received.

Also, deals are outside of the PBS rules in a lot of ways ... the books that you ordered from her  should be postable (and not be ARCs) ... but if the free ones are unpostable, there really is nothing you can do about it, since they were free. And, many people feel funny about RWAping and asking for a credit back when they still have the right amount of postable books for the credits that were spent.  I know that I woudl probaby not RWAP in the case of a deal, unless the book condition was so outrageous that it could not have been anything but deliberate.

Agree with Sara--look at this transaction as an educational tool for yourself. I found a couple of RWAP books weeks after I'd marked them received and kicked myself in the butt for not checking them more closely when I marked them received. Now I've gotten in the habit of checking them closely--making sure the ISBN matches, the format (ie, hardcover if I've ordered hardcover, etc) and that it's not an ARC as well as flipping through the book more closely to look for stains, writing, loose pages, etc.

And, since deals are done outside of the PBS credit system, there really isn't much you can do about that...which is why I don't do deals anymore. Too many people seem to regard deals as a way to unload books unfit to send for credit--even though the 'deal' books are sitting right there on their bookshelf in supposedly postable condition. Oy.

Unfortunately there is no one to notify as the site doesn't mitigate individual problems. The good things is that even those members eventually get weeded out. I ran into one that was sending unpostables through one of the WL multiples a while back. Sent out A LOT of books. The books I got were not in good shape and one was very water damaged and all I got were excuses trying to say they were postable and all sorts of things imaginable must have happened. The responses to her posts deminished and I noticed she no longer even offers in there. I think she thought because she was offering a lot of wish list books we should just be happy we got them no matter what the condition. I've seen a few massive WL multiple offerers disappear and I kind of wondered if they had did the same thing.
