Sorry, hit enter too soon!! I was just going to say, do you ever notice that the Authors you love to read are never what you pictured them to look like in your head? I am currently reading a Carolyn Davidson book and i have always liked her writting, and for some reason i always pictured her to be younger.........then i see her pic on the inside of the back page and holy cow, she's old enough to be my grandmother!!!! Makes it a little weird reading the love scenes now! lol.

Heh.

Well, I have one! Ever notice that men in romance novels always wear boxers? What's up with that? I think boxers are ugly.  Though not as hideous as those combination boxer briefs they're selling now.  Even the sexy underwear models can't make those look good.

I love those boxer briefs! the snuggy ones..geez if I'm so easy to please why dont' I have someone?! :-) and yep I've seen photos of an author and not what I expected at all..I don't think I could write somethng 'hot' and have my picture in the book! I remember reading 'Lace' back in the day and the woman actually dedicated the book to her sons for crying out loud! talk about embarrassing! I never saw her pic though or if were there I didn't notice it..

lora leigh, lucy monroe, sherryl woods are some I can think of that I was surprised..and marianne stillings

I was surprised at how old Jodi Thomas is. I guess for some reason i thought Jodi was a more "youthful" sounding name. Maybe that is why she chose it?

Lora Leigh was a shock for me....she looks like she could be my grandmother.  But is she really only 36?

Okay i just looked up Jaid Black on www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/  ,  and being that i am a plus sized gal myself i must say this " big girls need love too".......LOL, I'm teasing,  i always tease my younger male cousin with that same line whenever a bigger gal gets a crush on him. I keep telling him that sometimes a girl with some curves will surprise you!

THere is certainly nothing wrong with her size....I didn't mean to imply that. She's just not what I would have pictured writing the kind of stuff she writes!  I admire what she has done for women's fiction.

It's alright, i sorta knew what you meant i was only joking about the size stuff. I do understand what you mean about not picturing someone writing in the style that they do. That would be like trying to picture someone like Martha Stewart writing Erotica! lol

No, I don't think I've ever noticed men in romance novels always wearing boxers, actually. In fact, I can't think of any mention of boxers in contemporary romances I've read... Maybe I'm not paying attention.

There was a review on ripmybodice about something similar to this that had me in stitches.  Something about reading a "scorchingly hot scene" where the hero is plowing the heroine's love fields and how the author that wrote such a hot scene is never what you pictured them to be. :-p

Yes just imagine the nerdiest woman you see on the bus or in Walmart....and what might be going through her mind that you just wouldn't have thought of!!! You just don't know, do you? Of course that's why some of us use book covers if we take certain books out in public....or even at home :)

I try never to look at authors.  It's just a superstition I have......if I see them before I read the book, it means the book is going to be bad.  Why?  I have no clue.

But when I do come upon authors and they look like little old grandmothers, I'm  thinkin "what the heck?"

I've gotten used to authors being older or very prim looking--some of them have been writing for decades after all, we can't expect them to freeze time. ;-) --but when the author is obviously fat, I feel a little let down if she doesn't write at least some bigger characters.

When I first started reading romance I though Leigh Greenwood was a woman.  I finished the book (sex scenes included) then looked at the back inside cover and he's an old man!  That kind of creeped me out actually.

I didn't realize there were romance books written by men.  I know there are "romantic" books like those by Nicholas Sparks.  For some reason men writing sex scenes never works for me.

Brynn that's one reason I don't really like Training to Pleasure by Julian Masters. I may never get around to finishing it.   I can really tell that its written by a man, not enough emotion I guess.
