First let me say that Virginia Henley is one of my favorite authors. I get her books simply because she wrote them and not because of the story line. However, I was extremely disappointed in this book. The story was choppy, the plot didn't flow well, and the love story was bland. There were times when I was reading it that I was actually getting frustrated at how bad it was written. The love scenes were even boring. I can only hope this was a one off for Virginia Henley and not the end of a fantastic author.

Very disappointed!
If you are looking for a well-developed story of the relationship of the main characters, Brianna & Wolf, this is not the book for you. If you want to read about the political intrigue of King Edward II and Queen Isabelle's court, here you go.
This book's main storyline had very little to do with romance, and was primarily about the author's preception of history. It was painful for me to finish.
I have read most of Virginia Henley's novels, and always enjoyed the well-developed characters, their passion and story-lines. It will be very hard for me to pick up any of her new books after this.

Another good one from Henley. Mixes Intrigue, history & romance. If you like history you will like this.
