I'm trying -- I really am. But every time I give my step-mom the benefit of the doubt, she says or does something that obliterates any charitable impulse I have. You would think that after almost forty years of having this woman in my life, I would know better -- but I am still surprised at her greed, her selfishness, and her utter lack of compassion. Boy, if anyone deserves a wet noodle... OK -- rant over. I'll be home tomorrow.

Deb I am sorry your having tdeal with this on top of everything else. Once you get home you can deal with your own grief.  It is too bad that you don't get along with her, but now at least you can choose just how much contact you have with her.

Edited, cause I wrote this before I was awake I think. surprise

Deb, hope things get better soon. My oldest brother and I had a ton of issues with middle brother after my mother died and it wasn't fun by a long shot.

*hugs*

Thanks Letty and Cathy. Actually, on the surface, we get along fine -- I keep my mouth shut and play nice -- and then get mad at myself for being such a pushover -- don't want to rock the boat -- but you're right, from now on, I can choose how much contact to have with her. The irony is that my step-sister told me that she hopes I will stay in touch with her mom but she would understand completely if I didn't. Oh, well...a good book, a glass of wine, and somelots of chocolate are clearly on the horizon.

This is how I am with my step mom who has been married to my father for almost 30 yrs. It is a shame that your step-mom is the way she is. Just think of the good memories with your father and push her out of your thoughts. Enjoy your wine and chocolates, and take care of yourself.

Hey, You.

Know that Linda & I are thinking about you & hoping that your world gets back on its axis sooner rather than later. I read a quote the other day that I would like to share with you ...

"Acquiring a dog may be the only opportunity a human ever has to choose a relative."

It's attributed to the famous Anonymous, but the underlying sentiment is one that we can all identify with.

Keep your chin up, Hon ... it'll save you from drowning,

Kelly

Deb - sending you strength and hugs to make it through this.  Instead of a glass of wine, why not the whole bottle.  That will definately make reality a little easier to manage.....for that moment.

I was going to suggest a nice, strong enema for your sMIL but that wouldn't be right would it?

I shall instead, raise my glass for your safe return!

If you can't rant here Deb, where can you? It's good to let it out. And yes, make your choices so that it benefits YOU at this time. We are in your court and obviously we are all drinking in your behalf! wink Seriously, take good care of yourself through all of this.
