Hi everybody! For those of you who are in touch with the choices a 10 yr old girl might make re books to read, I would appreciate any recommendations you may have. We are giving to those who are not getting gifts this year and one of the children we are trying to get things for just asked for "books". HELP!!!!

Thanks much!

I picked up a copy of Phyllis Whitney's Step to the Music at a sale and when I started it, it turned out to be written for younger readers (at least the few pages of it indicated that).

ETA: I cannot guarantee this is suitable for a ten YO, just making that assumption based on what I've read and the year it was published.

Deb, I recognized several of those titles as Newberry Award winners ... which is precisely what I was going to recommend to Jeanne!

I love it when great minds think alike! :)

My SIL is getting my teen son started on the Ender's Game series and said that HP fans adore that series as well.

When I was about that age, I found Rifles for Watie and devoured it. To this day, that book stands out to me as a really good one, even though I don't remember much of it. Just that I loved it. LOL!

There's also always The Secret Garden, Little Women, and the Anne of Green Gables series (which I get to start in Jan, thanks to my SS Jeanne!).
