Subject: OK to turn down request because book is heavy?

I requested a book, and got a message that the book could not be mailed because:

Too expensive to mail - book is 3 pounds - just not worth it for a one-book order.

I thought if we posted a book, and it was requested, we were supposed to send it, even if it was heavy.

Yes but unless they make a habit of it there's not really anything done about it. It was probaby a newbie who didn't realize how much it would cost to mail.  It happens.

They should have not posted it if they thought the book was too heavy.

I don't like the way they said "too heavy for a one book order", as if they are implying that the receiver should order more books in order to get the one they originally ordered.  I would wonder if they've sent this message out more than once.

I would probably report it to TPTB, so they can warn the member not to post books they don't intend to send.

"I thought if we posted a book, and it was requested, we were supposed to send it, even if it was heavy."  Yes, you thought correctly Diane.

Can you check and see if that appears to be a new member?  Otherwise I might be tempted to report that person, dunno if I'd really do it but I'd give the thought some serious consideration.  There's something in the member guidelines about being able and willing to mail books promptly when requested.  Newbies get some grace from me, takes awhile to learn the ropes.

I've both mailed and received a few large books...what goes around, comes around, and all that.  I was so thankful to receive a particular heavy wishlisted book, after it arrived I buddied another credit to help cover the additional postage.  The sender did not ask or hint, and was pleasantly surprised.

Sadly, this isn't as uncommon as it should be. I've placed orders and had people respond that if I didn't order multiples they were cancelling my order since they were unwilling to send singles. I just forward them to TPTB and move along.

For a sight filled with readers there are whole lot of people who never read the help docs and investigate before they just jump right in and start posting books.

If you post it you're suppose to send it no matter the weight or size. I'd let TPTB know, just in case this person makes a habit of this.
