Hi,

I'm hoping all the romance readers out there, particularly ones who liked the older stuff from the late 70's or 80's possibly, can help me with this.   A lady on another site posted this search & it sounds like a good book I'd like to read, too.   So please any suggestions as to author or a title are greatly appreciated.  Here is the original poster's information on the book:

THIS WAS POSTED on another book site. Would like to find it for the original searcher. So far it's been decided it's probably not a book by Jennifer Blake or Kat Martin... Thanks for your suggestions.

Original post:
** Hi, Still looking for the title of this book. It takes place in the 1800's in New Orleans. A good looking dark haired guardian has a teenage red haired ward who wants to get married and he forbids it. He marries her instead.(they have strong chemistry). He already has a quadroon mistress and a son he loves. Later the son dies from disease...he is still a little boy. All through the book the two main characters fight and make up. She thinks he might be responsible for her fathers death and later finds out this is not true. This historical paperback was written many years ago. Maybe more than twenty years. It was a really good plot with feisty characterzations and I hope to find the title and author. Appreciate your help alot!

HI, I appreciate your help so much. This has been nagging at me for many years. I tried Kat Martin also. Nothing. I wish I could remember some names from the book but only descriptions. The guardians mistress was very light skinned as was his small son who died. The guardian had black hair, and his feisy ward was a redhead and I am pretty sure she was Irish. There was an air of sexual tension between the ward and guardian right from the start. (like in Forbidden Love by Karen Robards which I have in PB). **

A little more info has just come to me from the OP:

"She was definitely not an indentured servant, she was in a boarding school for girls.  She had long red hair... She was the hero's ward.  The guardian was wealthy.  All the men back then had quadroon mistresses.  He fell in love with his ward after they were married and his mistress could tell that his affections had wandered, and she was the one to stop the affair.   They had a son that died.  I think he caught a disease (malaria?)  Not sure.   It was very sad when the boy died."

(P.S.   This was originally posted in the Members Thoughts forum by mistake.)

It wouldn't be Deborah Martin (aka: Sabrina Jeffries) would it?  Creole Nights?  It's old, like 1989, and it seems like I've read it, but darned if I know whether that could be it or not.  Young redheaded heroine, set in New Orleans, but that's about as much as I can tell you about it.

I'll pass along the information to the original searcher - you never know.   Seeing the cover might trigger her memory too.   Thanks.

The original searcher has remembered that the hero's name is Julian.  She's like, 99% sure of this.   If this helps.   The red haired heroine has an Irish father and/or has an Irish name.

I know that one, but I don't think that's the one she's looking for.  In Only In Your Arms (rewritten as When Strangers Marry), the heroine is running away from a forced marriage & the hero rescues her and takes her in.  Don't recall her ever being at boarding school in there, and he marries her to protect her from the marriage but never actually is her legal guardian & able to forbid her to marry someone else.  I've been cross checking settings with heroes named Julian at Historical Romance Writers and so far, no luck. There are plenty of heroes named Julian but nothing seems to fit so far, and it's a very tedious process to search by character name there. For whatever bizarre reasons you only get a return every other time you hit the search button.

Kim H:   Thank you for cross-checking that list of heroes named "Julian", I was doing that myself (love that site) and so was the original poster!   But as you say, there was nothing that sounded right.   I'm going to check out Seton's suggestion now.     Thanks.

Do you have the same problem with searching by character name?  It's like you select one from the drop down menu & hit search, and it kicks you right back where you started.  This happens to me on every other search & it's so annoying.  Great site though - when it works:P  I think it gets a lot of heavy traffic & that's what causes the problem.  There are times when I'm searching for books by title and I click on them & the system just lags out to infinity.  I hope Jess got the right one for you.  I usually have great luck if you have a setting & at least one character name, but I came up empty on this one.

Susan, can you give me the link to the other site. The next time I am in the mood to solve some bks, I'll check it out.

For those who are gonna try Eugenia Riley, hope you enjoy. I think she is a good, steady writer.
