I have been fostering kitties and spending my weekends doing adoptions at the local Petco for cat rescue Heaven Can Wait since December.  I think I really found my calling with pet rescue and would do it full time if it paid the bills.  Since I started fostering in January I have fostered 17 cats that have been adopted out to their furever homes.  Tonight the 18th one found his home and I am beyond happy.  Lazarus was special.  He is a 4 month old orange and white kitten that was found hanging from his back leg in a fence.  They had to cut the fence to get him out. The people that found him called every rescue/vet in town and all of them either said we can't help or we're too full and many recommended he be put to sleep.  Luckily they brought him to my sister because they heard she had a sister in rescue.  She called me and we managed to get him rushed to an awesome vet who told us the leg damage was too severe and we'd have to amputate but Lazarus would live a long happy life as a tripod.  Today was the first day I brought him out to the store and one of the Petco employees took one look at him and said he is coming home with me!   I am so glad I know for sure he is going to a good home.  While it felt good to help all the others by caring for them until they found their furever families, Lazarus is the first (and only) one I really feel like I saved because he would have died from infection without me and my sister stepping in to get him the care he needed.

Next weekend I have a mom and three 3 month old baby boys that are making their Petco debut.  Mom is Calpurnia and babies are Jem, Atticus and Boo Radley.  Here's hoping they are the next to find homes.  Just thought I'd share with you all because I know many of you are animal lovers :)

What a sweet baby! I love his big eyes...

I hope his new owner enjoys the privelege of taking care of this special kitty. One of my friends used to have a tripod dog - he lived to be 17 and had a remarkable, exuberant life. I'm sure Lazarus will too!

Awwww, sniffle. I'm so glad he found his "furever" home.

Bless you, Holly -- well done!  I hope little Lazarus has a long life with his new human, though he certainly seems to have used up a few of his allotted 9 lives on that fence.

Although not a car person, I will say, had I seen Lazarus I too would have wanted to bring him home with me.  What a wonderful calling.  You are a very special person Holly.

Oh Holly, you are an angel!  I love this story; what a cute little guy!  I had a tripod kitty as a girl--nothing slowed him down.  Thank you for sharing, and for being a foster.  Look at all the lives you have saved so far!  yesheart
