Is it just me, is it the heat....but I just have no energy to really write a good review of the books I've read lately.  What's up with that?  I feel like in in a slump here.

I feel like I'm in a slump at work too.  I have a plan (a huge one, actually) that would change my job up enough to hopefully reinvigorate me.  So...please, my HF forum friends, send positive energy into the universe to help me accomplish this!

I'll let you know how it goes...surprise

More vibes, it has to be working. I just got one review banged out. Now if I could get the energy to move, shower and dress and go get things done... (have another set of Dark Shadows DVD's that are calling me)

It's the heat! (at least, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!)

It's the heat.  I was fool enough to go blueberry picking with my Mom Sat.  I about died.  And I'm scratching a dozen bug bites of some kind.  But  -- I have 21 pints of frozen blueberries.  So no scrawny, tasteless things shipped from South America for me -- not this winter. :)

I think the heat is affecting my reading, too.  I just want the mindless HR books I've been collecting free or really cheap for my Nook.

We have had several days in the 90s, very unusual for VT. We have all been dragging around, saying how tired we are...PROOF that it's the heat! Sending positive thoughts and energy vibes your way. Debbie

Yes, I certainly understand about HEAT and with this being our "monsoon" season our humidity is higher than usual (right now at about 50% vs the 6 or 9% we normally have). What little energy I have, I'm wiling to share with you Vicky!

We are continuing to have overcast mornings in the 60's with late afternoon burnoff and highs in the low 70's.

Hello everyone! Miss me?

I haven't had a ton of time for reading lately and I think the heat is adding to it. I just want to sleep, not read! It's been problematic in trying to make a dent in my groaning bookshelves.

Erika!  Yes, you've been missed!

It's FINALLY cool here today.  I hope it stays that way.  I do feel more energized.

(And my "new" job is falling into place nicely, btw)

The heat's been thankfully waning here a bit, it's been finally raining this weekend, some good storms are finally taking away some of the oppressive humidity.

I probably won't be on here too much, but I'll check in from time to time. wink

Hey, Erika -- welcome back. You have indeed been missed. Quite a summer we've had, huh? We've had two houseguests this summer -- a college student from Portland and a graduate student from Northern California -- I don't think either of them will EVER return to DC in the summer after this record-breaking July.

Well, I think all our positive energy certainly helped Vicky -- proof being the excellent review she wrote for the PBS blog: Vicky's Mystery Monday Review. Warning: if you like mysteries and haven't yet read Estleman's Amos Walker series, you may not want to read this review -- because you may end up, as I did, sucked into putting yet another series on your TBR list (and a long series at that).

Yes, Welcome back Erika!

Thanks for the heads up on Vicky's review Deb. I may have to skip that since I can't imagine still another series - gads! I'm still wondering if Will Thomas is going to be publishing his next in the Barker and LLewellyn series!

Ha...sorry Deb, but I love Estleman's writing--and you will too!  cheeky

You know, OT but it's been a horrible, rough weekend/Monday.  I'm in a terrible mood, and it occurred to me that I should spend more time here.  Tonight there's a glass of wine calling my name, but tomorrow...I'll have a great review of The Poison Maiden.  smiley

ETA:  thank you for the kind words about Nicotine Kiss.  Have a good evening all...

Okay, I just KNEW that I shouldn't read Vicky's review but what a great review! I grew up just outside of Detroit so whaddaya think I did? Of course, I had to order one of those Amos Walker books! @#%^^$@

BTW, my 50th HS reunion is next month in Dearborn, MI but I made the decision not to go when I got word that my  best friend (classmate) died last month. Today I got word that another classmate just died. So what the heck am I thinking with getting all these books - that I have all the time in the world to read them, huh???? I think I need medication!!

Jeanne, you should try his Detroit series...it's a series of books written about Detroit in different decades. It starts with "Whiskey River", a novel of Prohibition Era Detroit, the Purple Gang...it's so good!

He goes on with Edsel (1950's), Motown (1967), Stress (1973), King of the Corner (1990's).

Then he backtracked, and wrote Jitterbug (Detroit during WWII) and Thunder City (1910's).

And look...it's only 7 books, not 21 like his Amos Walker series.  This series uses the city as the common factor (although Whiskey River and Edsel feature the same journalist) and it will take you back home!

Thanks Vicky! Just what I needed - but Amos sounds like such an interesting character!
