When I started reading the new Uhtred novel The Death of Kings by Bernard Cornwell I thought the first line in the book was very interesting.  It goes "Every day is ordinary...until it isn't.  Well now I realize how true those words are.  This week my world turned upside down.  Today I was officially diagnosed with advanced breast cancer that has migrated to a few small spots in my liver .  Next Wednesday I will be starting chemotherapy to shrink the tumors before I have breast surgery in a few months.  I hope you don't mind my sharing this with you all as I think of many of you as dear friends that I have come to know and care for through our common love of historical fiction.  My family (especially my husband Craig) have been amazing and loving and supportive.  My spirits are pretty good all things considered and I am determined to fight hard.  I hate pity parties so I hope you will all give me a kick in the proverbial butt if you catch me engaging in one.  I knew there was a reason I loved Uhtred (sorry Shelley!).

Cheryl,  Damn!  I am so sorry that you are dealing with this.  Will you be going to The Mayo or the U?  You know that we feel the same about you, this H/F group is wonderful and you should feel comfortable coming here anytime.  Also you can PM me.  You'll be in my prayers, please let me know if there is anything I can do for you we are practically neighbors.

I will be at the Frauenshuh Cancer Center attached to Methodist Hospital.  They are wonderful and actually do all of Mayo's cancer clinical trials.  Thanks dearest Jerelyn I will take you up on your offer.

Oh Cheryl, this sucks!  You know you have our love, support and prayers.  My best friend went through this too, and she found great information and comfort at this web site: No Surrender.

They have good, up-to-date articles and advice, and a forum too.   The women there really helped her.

Just remember: Fight like a girl!!

Cheryl --- My prayers have commenced --- inner strength is one third of this battle you are waging, good doctors and a fierce will to live are the other two.  Please keep us up to date on your treatments and progress.  My husband is a 12 year survivor of acute myeloid leukemia and I am certain others here have faced this dragon, or had loved ones who have, so we know success can be "just around the corner".

Gosh thanks evryone!! When I need a pick me up I will just re-read all your kind words.Yesterday I realized I am now going to look a lot like my favorite painting "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" by Vermeer.  I have this hanging above my fireplace in our livingroom.  I wonder if I can learn to tie a head scarf like that?  And also I need to find some fabulous earrings...hmmm Mom has some....

I'm going to put the link for this site up here again. It's listed as the animal rescue site but it also has a site for breast cancer. Clicking on these sites is absolutely free and I've been doing it for years now. I click each and every one. They also have a store with some uniques items at reasonable prices and ordering from these stores provides even more resources to the sites. I've never been harrassed by this site for anything else. Worth a look-see!

Oh my gosh Cheryl, I am so so sorry to hear about this.  Please take care of yourself and allow others to take care of you as well.    I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  And if you decide to throw the ocassional pity party, you are entitled to that and we'll all be here to help.  smiley
