I dunno why I was stupid enough to post something in a different discussion group.   There be monsters out there.  I shortly found myself up to my @ss in alligators =( .   People are NASS - TEE . I dunno why I keep venturing out of here.   It's the second time I've been burned.

I'm glad people in this group are nice.

lol. I occasionally look at the Club Member Thoughts and Political boards but I've noticed (particularly in the former) that there are so very many people posting that posters get jumped on a lot and things move far too quickly to have an actual meaningful conversation a lot of the time. So I use other sites for political conversation and stuff like that.

Plus, the demographics for this site seem to skew more specifically than a lot of other message board sites (which is logical, this site isn't as likely to be used by people who didn't have at least a little money to play with, time to mail books, Internet access, are older and less likely to be focused on school/e-Books/etc.) which results in an echo chamber effect at times.

My advice -- stay out of CMT unless you want an attack of the rabid, frothing at the mouth republicons.   And they are hungry for fresh meat =(

Claudia and Susanna,  I'm with you too!  The CMT Forum is just not for me at all.  Book talk (esp. romance) is all I want to talk about!!  (I also hang out in the Games Forum a lot.)

The only reason to check in at CMT is to find out what Greg found on the internets recently that is wonderful and crazy.

Otherwise it is a playground you wouldn't let your dogs go to without police escort most of the time.     I have on occasion gotten some good recipes there.   Overall the R&L is the place to chat.

Susanna,

If that's the case, then all the bleeding heart liberals must have been in hiding on Wednesday. I would have welcomed some.

The only reason I ventured there in the first place was because I wanted to discuss an issue very important to me that would have been completely off-topic for the L & R forum.

Didn't expect the wolf pack attack.  Guess I know better now.

I dunno where they were hiding - usually a conservative post or christian post gets attacked! I'm more middle of the road or non-political if there's such a thing LOL so I get tired of both extremes there. I missed that post but I haven't been around as much the past month or so like I usually do. Sorry you got atttacked. Maybe the topic died out before your help arrived. there's one on there w ho's very rude all the time - Nancy I think is her name - she's extremely conservative and is pretty darned blunt in her posts - so if she attacked then yep I definitely agree you got ambushed! There are plenty more liberal there though lately there have been some more conservative depending on the issue brought up.

just stay over here and we'll discuss nookie and good stuff LOL! wink

The underhandedness and meanspiritedness over there was truly shocking.  I think I will stay over here.  I hope nobody minds if I occasionally post on an off-topic subject.

Oh yes, and Nancy did get in her 2 cents worth.  Somebody else put her in her place though since I was unable to.

Just label it OT and keep it polite... I had to leave the Romantic Times board because I couldn't take seeing all the nasty subject headers. Buf of course you will.

I prefer to keep my politics out of my book discussions, I don't want to get adversarial with my online book friends or vice versa.

As it happened, it wasn't even policital or shouldn't have been.  It was only about unemployment & the recent practice of employers requiring applicants to be currently employed in order to be considered for jobs.   I guess that was controversial enough to set someone off.   The discussion was heated, but respectful.

You completely missed the point of the previous discussion, but that didn't prevent you from jumping in.  I'm not referring to my own situation AT ALL, but to the legality of the practice overall, since it has a disproportionate impact on people in "protected groups" (minorities, those over 40 & the disabled) who are more likely to be unemployed.   As such, it is at the very least unethical and probably illegal under current civil rights laws.  The legality/illegality will be decided by the EEOC.

BTW, a Georgia congressman recently introduced a bill that would ban employment discrimination against the unemployed.  I don't expect it to see the light of day in this congress, however.  It will likely be buried in committee.  New Jersey recently passed a law prohibiting employment ads stating "must be CURRENTLY EMPLOYED" to be considered.  It seems that this is a more widespread problem than some people think.

You are a fool if you think I started this thread to complain about you. If you look, i wasn't even the first one to bring up your name. Someone else did so I went back to check the old thread & sure enuf there you were. Must you hijack every thread & make everything about you? I suggest you get a good mirror & take a long look. My original post didn't refer to you even obliquely.

Edited to correct typos.

Please, please let's keep the Genre topics focused on their stated purpose.  If it's not about Love & Romance, take the conversation to another forum.

I've spent a lot of time over at the CMT forum and while I agree that things do get nastly there sometimes I don't think it's all that bad as to avoid the place complety.  It's easy just to gloss over the topics that don't interest me or to avoid posting to the ones that turn into alligator attacks.  Sometimes I even look for a more "nice" topic further down the list that I can post a pleasant comment to, in order to bump the alligator attacks further down the list.

Then your experiences have been very different from mine.  I, for one, refuse to post there any longer. They're too unruly for me.   However, if I see someone there asking for advice or help in an area where I have some expertise or knowledge, I **might** pm them if I'm feeling helpful.
