Check out your bookshelves ladies.  They have combined your bookshelf with "books to repost"

Per Robert:  The books that have a checkmark with a red circle next to them are not available to be swapped. If you would like to make it available, just check the box next to that book and "Post" it. This new setup makes it very easy to get those books back into the system.

I didn't like that they did this. I had some unpostables, books I've sent out as part of deals and books I got for my daughter on there. I deleted all my non-posted books.

I don't like it either.  Can they change it back?  It would be nice if they warned us about stuff like this.

I looked and I hate it. Thought they combined my TBR pile to my posted books,so I deleted my TBR and that did not take care of the problem, those books were still there taunting me.So I just deleted the books on hold and  that seemed to take care of the red circle of madness....of course I had to repost my TBR pile. This is not good for my PMS.

this sucks! I'm mainly a keeper and don't re-post nor do I want everyone to know what I've ordered!

ETa: well maybe others cant' read those but it cluttered my entire shelf!

The best I can tell, your "on hold" books don't show up on your bookshelf until you "post" them.  Ugh!  I read about this on another forum and believe me, we aren't the only peeved members of PBS.  What's bad is, I also read they are going to change the way our Wish List works at some point in the future.  If you're a member of Swap-A-DVD, it works like that site does.  (If you're not, then basically what it does is you have to tell PBS how badly you want a wish list book.  Then is someone else wants it more than you do - indicated by a number - they basically move ahead of you in line)

What really annoys me is I can think of so many changes that would actually make PBS pleasanter and easier to use, and instead they're spending all this work on making the site *harder*.

There were several threads a while back about the wishlist. In some ways it might work better, like if you're wanting a book but are like 2 out of 50 but aren't quite read when it's close to your turn and would like to bump down a few  places...but just don't know if it'd work like that. I deleted everything on my bookshelf since I just mailed out the lat thing I had posted and all those others were cluttering too  much.

I just wish they'd let us know BEFORE they change stuff. You know, like,  send us infomation so we know how the changes work!

They've been talking about WL changes and combining the WL and RL for weeks now.  This might be a sign that they're getting close to doing that.  I just went through my RL and cleaned it out a bit. I had gotten into the habit of sticking books on there so I could investigate them later. Then forgetting about them of course. My fear was that when they combined them, I would end up with a bunch of books automatically ordered for me because they were on my RL.  But your RL books are supposed to go on hold when the list is combined.  I'm not crazy about the whole having to rank books thing.  I just joined SwapaDVD and it's kind of annoying and I only have 11 DVD's on my WL there-but I have multiple versions of some-so really it's only about 5.  I don't plan on putting much effort into playing the rating game.  Whatever I get, I get.  I've been very lucky with getting WL books posted to me. I think we'll still be able to post books directly to eachother and that's where most of mine have come from-people I post with on this board.  Not because I was #1.  It will take into account how long you've had the book on your WL before the change was made. You earn pts based on how you have it ranked and how long you've had it on your WL.

I think the idea behind this is to- A: make people pay more attention to their WL instead of just sticking a ton of books on there and ignoring offers that come in or declining them because they don't really want the book afterall and B: to help a new person who joins to maybe move up the WL line faster and not feel like they aren't getting any of their WL books. I see people posting all the time how they've been here for 2 months or something, sent out a bunch of books and haven't gotten single WL book.  This is supposed to help cut down on that.

Personally, If I'm that desperate for a WL book, I just buy it myself on Ebay or Amazon. Then I repost it here to someone's WL.  Otherwise, I can wait.  I only have about 300 other books to read already.  So I don't plan on trying to guess and "play the numbers" with my WL books.  I'll get them when I get them.

I too went thru and deleted the on hold books.  Most of them, I'm not planning on reposting anyway.

ETA:  I don't keep a TBR list at all, the only lists I use are the Wish list and Reminder list.

Mary what you said

"I think we'll still be able to post books directly to eachother and that's where most of mine have come from-people I post with on this board.  Not because I was #1."

is very true. At least I hope it is.  I'm waiting on some credits to post from Swap a DVD and then I'm closing my account there.  I've gotten very few of my WL dvd's from there and I've been on it from BEFORE day 1.  (I was a beta tester)

I figured I'd try it out. I'm not holding my breath on any WL DVD's but you never know.  I had a couple WL exercise videos and a duplicate of Monsters, inc. which was WL and worth 2 credits.  I ordered replacements for 2 videos we left on a plane last summer.  If I get them, I get them.  I don't plan on being involved as much with that as I am with PBS.  Like trying to find deals on WL dvd's or anything. I had one ordered from my shelf already.  I just figured I'd get rid of some we never watch.  I think I put like 6 DVD's on WL.  And if I find them at Half-price books or Walmart, I'll just buy them.

I think it's just weird and it's going to be hard to get used to.  Now I have to track books even more closely to be sure I still have them & haven't traded them off elsewhere.  Plus it's almost a guilty little reminder of how big your TBR pile is - like I don't feel guilty enough already...:P

On the WL thing - ugh!  I put things on there because I want them.  I very seldom decline anything.  Once or twice because I didn't have credits, and really couldn't budget to buy more, and once because I bought something and then had it WL offered the next day - which bummed me out bad enough.  If they asked me, I'd say put me in the #! spot on almost my whole darned WL.  Can't think of too many people who wouldn't...  And now I'm also wondering, when they combine RL & WL, if somebody has a book on their RL that is on your WL, but not high priority, do they get the offer first?

When the RL and WL combine, anything from your RL will go onto your WL on hold.  Meaning you aren't in line anywhere for an on hold book on your WL.  Once you decide you want it, you take it off hold on your WL and then you get in line and can rank it depending on how much you want it.

Basically, you'll move up the WL faster if you rank stuff higher that you want it.  But, the amount of time you've had the book actively on your WL counts too.  Someone who's had a book on their WL for 2 years but ranks it lower will still be higher in line for getting the book than someone who's only just put the book on WL and ranked it as #1.  It'll take a long time for the newer requestor to take over and gain a spot over the older requestor.

I think if you put your account on hold you still move up the line. But you might get passed over if you're near the top and the book gets posted but your account is on hold. So if you go on vacation you won't get bypassed by half the people waiting, unless you're near the top and the book's getting posted.

You won't get offers for books on your RL.  They will be hold until you either add it to your WL or order the book.  This is so you can put available books on RL and just put them on hold so it doesn't automatically order them for you.  I had a bunch of unavailable book on my RL.  I went through my whole RL-deleted ones I've gotten in deals or boxes, multiple versions of books and ones I probably won't ever order.  I tagged all the ones that are available so I can see them when they're on someone's shelf and I'm doing a box or looking at a deal someone's offering.  Now that they're all tagged, I think I'm going to delete a bunch of them.  I can just search my tag to see them. I'm going to print it out first though.  I went through all my 0 copies posted books and put several on WL and deleted a bunch.  Most of them were WL books that I just wanted to keep an eye out for at the UBS.

I have so many unread books, I don't plan on putting much efffort into ranking them.  If some newbie gets a WL book before me and it helps encourage them to keep using the site and posting books, I'm ok with that.

I hear ya, Mary.  As much as I think I want some things, I need to be realistic about what I can actually read before the next millenium, and pare my WL down accordingly.  I'm trying to approach the changes with a positive attitude - whatever the drawbacks, if I am careful to remove things I'm not going to repost for whatever reason, it's a pretty handy way to track everything I have gotten from PBS.  Sherron and I just started temporary trading WL books we have from each other's wishlists; I got 3 from her today, and I loaned her The Windflower, Tapestry, and Thief of Dreams.  2 of those I got from WL here and had only read one of.  The one I've read - Tapestry - I wanted for my Karen Ranney set, but like a lot of my keepers, I don't mind loaning it out to friends.  That's one way, at least, to read things that are hard to get, and not end up with the TBR pile from hell.

If your account is on hold you still move on the WL. If you leave the ones you know you really want on auto-request they'll be ordered even if your account is on hold. At least that is how it worked last summer when I went on vacation.

I'm not crazy about all the books on my shelf now either. I did notice that there is a box(I think it's yellow) ,when you're checking in books you've received, that asks you if you want that book to be listed on your shelf in an on hold status. I was a little confused by it yesterday until I saw this topic.

I tagged and printed out my RL.  So I'm going to delete them so I don't have a gigantic WL to figure out.  If I'm looking at a boxer's shelf or at a deal in the bazaar, I'll see my tags. I can look at the printed list or search my tags to find a specific title.  Most of these I'll probably only order if someone offers me a box.  Although I do have a few series books books on RL.  But usually I order them as I'm reading a series so I have them on hand.

I've had to go through and pare my wishlist down too..I had to t urn down a wishlist 'cause I forgot I had different isbn's for it and it had already been sent. also took off some I wasn't interested in any more and thinking about removing some others since my TBR pile is so dang huge!
