I'm in need of some help. I want to send a letter to a friend who lives in Scotland, but I've never sent postage there before. What's stumping me is the fact that I've checked the postage rate using the USPS website and called the automated service. But both sources gave me different prices! Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Natalie B.

International Postage for a 1 ounce letter is 94 cents. On the USPS website to calculate postage you need to change it from domestic to the country you want. Then it will ask if it is a postcard, letter, large envelope or package. If it is a letter it will ask about the dimensions. Square dimensions do cost more.

What prices were you given?  From that we may be able to figure out the difference in kind of mail service the two sources were quoting.

Hi,

Thanks for the help.

I can't remember one of the prices, but Rebecca's info of 94 cents was one of them. I want to say the other price was like 89 or 92 cents. But don't quote me on it.

Thanks again,

Natalie B.

Natalie, I wonder if one of places you received the prices never updated their information from when the stamps went up earlier this year. Sometimes even the clerks at the post office have no clue. When I was sending a letter to one of my international friends the clerk tried to sell me the 90 cent stamp and I had to remind him of the increase.

Canada and Mexico have traditionally been less ($0.72) than other countries.  Mailing a postcard to Mexico or Canada is also $0.72.

All other foreign countries are $0.94.  I have a friend in Scotland so I can tell you it is $0.94 to mail a one ounce letter to someone there.  And it does cost the same ($0.94) to mail a postcard there.

natalie, if the three prices you found were 89 92 or 94 cents, i would have picked the highest amount just to be on the safe side. i would rather it have too much postage than not enough
