Okay, so something really cool happened on my way home from work, and NO ONE IS HOME FOR ME TO SHARE THIS WITH! Don't you hate that? So...I'm sharing with you guys.
I was on my way home from work, and driving up Elk Mountain. I came around a curve, and there in the road was a mama black bear and her THREE cubs! She ran across, up the embankment to my left, and immediately climbed a tree. From her perch, she could turn around and watch her babies. The three cubs all stopped and stared at me as I sat there. I was completely lovestruck!! They were SO cute!! Then they finished crossing (their gait looks like they are galloping on a rolling ship deck) and climbed up the embankment. I should say the embankment is very steep, and the third little cub had a hard time getting up there, but he made it finally.
I love moments like that! It's like a blessing whenever I'm granted a viewing of the wildlife we have here. Especially babies! I'm a sucker for babies.
Now, if only I'd had my camera!!! Dang.
Sheila---yes, my phone does have a camera. However, I'm really bad about carrying my phone with me, as we get little to no reception here. I always take it with me when I leave the county, but just going to work...not so much.
Cathy---I wasn't quite so lovestruck that I would get out of the car. But there was a moment, when it looked like that third cub needed a push up the hill....
Cheryl---I think they are fairly rare. I've seen twins before, but never triplets. It was just so cool.
How cute! I too live rural-and a tourist destination to boot. Thanks for reminding me that I DO love where I live-and it is a blessing to be here.
Jan~~Yes, we too are a tourist destination. As I continued my drive that evening, I saw a car pulled off at the overlook about 1/2 mile from my bear sighting. Bikes strapped to their vehicles, coolers, you name it. I was so geeked, I wanted to stop and tell them about the cute babies, but I thought I'd probably scare them. LOL
Jerelyn...bison and elk are very acceptable!
