Heh heh, in the original post I actually posted the blog where i got the idea from and then I realized that she posted the results over there of the top three winners and I did change some of the words but used a lot of the same so I had to take it out.  I will definitely give credit where credit is due when the challenge is over but I didn't want anyone to mosey over there and stumble on a bunch of answers :)

Holly - Thanks for stepping up and giving us a new challenge!  Sounds like fun.  I don't envy you, though, having to verify all the titles!  Eeek!

Sounds like great fun. Are previous winners disqualified?

I assume our titles must use only the 30 words in the list. Is this correct? Because there must be hundred's of HF titles with the word, "white," for instance.

Oh, can you use possessive's (King's) and plurals (Daughters)?

Sorry, job hazard. I'm a librarian.

LOL, Jeanne! I'm almost afraid to admit I have one more question.

Are we to stick to pure HF? That is, do sub-genres, such as historical romance and historical fantasy, qualify. I'm beginning to see how unwieldy this could get, if we don't super-define the rules.

Or am I just being anal?

Previous winners are not disqualified :)  I'm not even sure I remember everyone who has won a prize on a mini-challenge this year!!

Making it plural is allowed.  I have the 's listed in freebie words but its kind of hard to see.

Just words on the list are allowed (+the freebie words).

And lastly, if I'm thinking right historical fantasy is Juliet Marillier/Diana Gabaldon type books and historical romance would be Georgette Heyer/Victoria Holt type?

I think I'll allow those :)

Another question: You listed First, Second, or Third  - just those or anything like that (Fourth, Sixth, etc.)?

All,

I was asked by one participant a couple of days ago if only First Second or Third could be used or if any numbered words could be used.  I originally said just those three but I am amending that.  Any number (1, 2, 26,99 etc) or any numbered word (First, Tenth, Fiftieth etc..) will now be allowed to complete a title.

I have also added "of" to the freebie words as I realized alot of titles would be disqualified without it.

I hope I am not making this challenge too difficult  but I promise the grand prize will be worth it :)

Karla - I would love to hear some of your favorite books from the Wars of the Roses time period - drop me a PM if you like.  No, I'm not trying to get ideas for this month's challenge!  In fact, I've decided to not even play this month.  Too little time and methinks this would be kind of a strain on my little pea brain!

If you all do this, please consider starting a Wars of the Roses thread. I think many of us would be interested.

Susan Higginbotham, author of The Traitor's Wife (well worth reading), put together a great list. But I'm having trouble finding it.

Here's a list by the librarian of the Richard III Society. And another by the R3 Society.

This challenge is going to make my wishlist huge! I'm finding all sorts of books and authors I'd never heard of before. This is fun!

Oh, I wanted to ask a question - We can't use non-fiction, history books, right?

Just historical fiction :)

I'm sure once i receive all the lists this challenge is going to make my WL/RL huge too.  I've already added about 60 books just browsing historical fiction websites lately.

I think I'll try to give this a shot!  I just scanned my wishlist and found a few there, I'll also check out my TBR pile and the BIR list (hopefully after that I won't dig up too many books to add to my WL, but I know I probably will! :-P).

I was pmed a question about whether it had to be the entire title to include subtitles.  Since some subtitles are 7 billion words long and requiring them would probably rule out a lot of books, I'm going to rule, no, they are not necessary.

If anyone is sending me PMs about the challenge I apologize for taking a bit to answer them.  My dad has been in the hospital since saturday and was transferred to hospice care this evening :(
