Okay, what would you do in this situation?

There is a book on my wish list which has been getting posted fairly often lately. I was offered this book by a member, but it timed out, so I have been returned to number one on the list. However, i received an email from the person where she said she will mail the book as soon as she can. I wrote her back and asked if she had mailed the book, because if she had I would put the book on hold, but if she hadn't then please not to because I will get it from the next poster. I never heard anything back, so have not put the book on hold. Today i received an email from her and this is what she said:

No, I did not but you are going to have to wait because I am in school and very busy.

So i wrote back and said, please don't mail it, I will get it from the next member.

I don't want to put a book I am sure to get on hold for someone who isn't following the rules and don't think I should have to. I want to accept it from the next person who offers it. I think I have been pretty clear in saying not to mail it late. what would you do in this situation?

The rules clearly state that a book should not be posted unless you are prepared to send it. I'd tell her to stop posting the damned thing into the system until she is actually ready to mail it, otherwise she is holding you hostage and preventing you from getting the book from someone else.

ETA: If her transaction timed out, she should definitely NOT send the book. If you accept the same book from someone else, the second person is entitled to the credit, not her.

If she isn't reposting the book and said she hasn't mailed it then don't put the book on hold.  You told her not to send you the book.  If she's stupid enough to send it to you anyway then that's her problem.

She hasn't reposted it. I think she assumes she can mail it whenever she wants because she sent that first email. I think by telling her not to send it twice, I am free to accept it from the next person who posts. From what I understand, you have to agree to a late mailing. Believe me, i am not a hardass, if someone mails something a couple of days late, I won't have an issue, but it's been about ten days since it timed out. I think four or five other copies were posted this month, so I think I stand a good chance of someone else posting it. She doesn't even have an estimated time as to when she could mail it, which makes no sense to me. I don't post books when I am too busy to mail. Everybody has a life, but that's why we have vacation hold! ;)

You'd be totally correct there. If you do get the book from someone else, and the first person sends her copy anyway, she is out a book and a credit. You're under no obligetion to her at this point. It'll be a great object lesson that she can learn from at least.

Unless she printed out your label, how will she even know where to send it??

Well damn, aren't we all "very busy?" Most of us still manage to mail our books on time and don't tie other members up.

I hope you get your book soon.... from someone!

You are entirely correct Erin.  Politely pm this person and let her know the system has cancelled her transaction and she should not send the book to you.  Kindly mention that she can repost the book when she is less busy and can mail the book promptly.

If she has not already printed the label, I'm not sure that she can access that information after the transaction times-out...any TG input?

also I noticed in your first post you said she emailed you. Make sure everything is through PBS. That way if she does cause a stink after being stupid enough to mail it, the PBS team can see the back and forth. If it isn't, cut and paste all the email chain in a PM and say something like "as per our previous emails listed below" don't send the book.

After the order times out, it is moved to the transaction archive. At that point, the label will no longer print. The only way she would have a label is if she printed it before it timed out.
