I took some books to the post office this morning to mail and I was looking at my receipt after I got home.  One of the packages had this message:

"The timeliness of service to destinations outside the contiguous U.S. may be affected by the limited availability of transportation."

The package is going to Brookyn NY.  Since when is New York "outside the contiguous U.S."?  Wouldn't that be more like Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, etc?

Yes, by PO rules, the lower 48 are contiguous - and NY is definitely one of those 48! I'd be paranoid  that I mistakenly used a AK/HI/PR zip code for that brooklyn package if I saw that.

My receipts have had that on there the past two weeks. The books are arriving just fine.

I think they must put that on all receipts because mine have said that, too, and they have gotten to their destination.

I think that automatically gets added to the receipt when you send anything media mail.  You can ignore it for NY.

It must be a blanket disclaimer.  A "just so you know" sort of thing.  We all already knew that, but maybe there's a large population that doesn't and there have been complaints.  Who knows?
