Just curious and so many rules I never knew about. Just finished a wish listed book and would be happy to share and send on. Problem is no auto request so I am just not willing to deal with that.I can not store books and can just drop it off at the library. Is there a rule against asking if someone with auto request on wanst it?

Why not just post the book, just because it is not auto-requested does not mean it won't be quickly requested anyway. It may well be requested before you would be headed to your library anyway. I don;t have my WL on auto-request, but, accept WL offers witihin 24 hours. I'm sure many are the same.

I also don't have my WL on auto request, but accept books as soon as I see them posted to me (usually within a few hours).  Pat

Thanks but the question asked has not been answered. Are you able to ask if someone with auto request on wants the book? I do not have multiples because I do not want them. I get rid of books after I read them. If not via auto request here then the library box.or other venues.

You may offer WL books. You cannot ask for them. That said, I really don't think CMT or Qs are the correct forum for this. I would recommend you go to the Book Bazaar or a genre thread.

I hope this helps, here's what I found in the Bazaar (all bullet points are quotes, except that I removed bolding and added my own to emphasize relevant information):

  • How to use this forum - please read before posting here! - (6) No trying to jump the Wish List "line" by offering or asking for postable Wish Listed booksPostable Wish Listed books should be posted and swapped "officially"This of course does not apply to posts advertising an alternate ISBN  (or non-ISBN version) of a Wish Listed title; it is fine to advertise that you have those posted to your account Bookshelf.

That said, they do make an exception for the Multiples thread to save on shipping, but that would not appear to apply to this situation since you're looking to send a single titles. The rules in the ***JUNE 2015 Wishlist Multiples Official Thread*** (skimmed) indicate that the WL Multiples thread is the only place allowed to offer postable WL titles other than through FIFO (or the Related friend's-WL feature), but it that is reserved for multiple titles. I know that's not really what you were looking to hear so, per the info in the WL Multiples rules, I would check with the ladies at the helm of that post, specifically starting with Amanda, to see if you'd actually get in trouble for posting multiples (allowed) but not actually having a minimum requirement (probably not allowed).

  • If you have questions about this thread, please contact me (Amanda). If you don’t get an answer from Amanda within 24 hours, please contact  Melanie D. (melanied)(Bazaar Co-Czar)
  • ~ This will be a monthly thread (meaning a new thread will be started at the beginning of each month). Any books you have remaining from the month before that you still want to offer will be YOUR responsibility to transfer to the new thread. There is to only be ONE Wishlist Mutliples thread (this one) so that we can be assured people are following the rules. (4-27-11) Please do not create your own thread advertising WL Multiples and let Melanie or me (Amanda) know if you see one of these before we do. :)
  • ~ The goal is to send multiple books to the same home so you can save on shipping...this is NOT intended to bypass the FIFO system. You may combine your books listed here with books from your shelf to create your "multiples" package. However, you are NOT allowed to place requirements on your book orders in any other way than to state the obvious ("wanting to send out packages of 2 or more" or "orders of 3 or more only please"). It is NOT okay to require orders from your Bookshelf in conjunction to ordering these WL'd books. (It's about requiring it, rather than providing that as an option.) So long as you're sending out multiples, this thread is serving its purpose.
  • ~DO NOT list only ONE book in this thread…this thread is for multiples.

The library will like it for their sales, if it doesn't sell, they'll recycle it for you. Ahh libraries, I used to be soend a lot of time in them.

Is it ok offer wishlisted book on this forum?   NO, offer it in the WL Mutiples in the Bazaar

Offer it with another wl book and request someone order 2 books.

To stop a wl book from rolling over to the next wisher put your account on vacation hold. Then put that wl title on hold then you should be able release the vacation hold.  If you do not put the wl title on hold it will go to the next wisher.

Guess I'm not understanding the issue.  The OP has 37 books currently posted on her bookshelf, all posted in early May it seems, so if she has room for those books to sit around for over a month, I don't get that she can't wait a few days for a WL book to be accepted by the people in line for it.

That's what I was thinking, but who knows what is going on in another person's life.  Question asked, question answered.  There we go!

I can see both sides of Jeanne's comment.

The books on our PBS shelf are just waiting to be ordered and the we have to go into action within 5 days to accept the request.  Those books could take a day or months or years to be ordered.  One thing we know is the person who ordered it wants the book and has a credit and swap fee (if applicable).  If it survives the RC process then the receiver does nothing but wait to recieve the book.  In this case the first move is made by the requestor (who makes a request and is ready).

Wl books are different, the sender posts it and may have to wait 48 hrs for the receiver to accept.  No problem for me personally. Some members are unhappy with waiting 48hrs and it not be accepted and starting another 48 hr waiting and on and on until accepted. Also a person may have other things they want to do and not be tied down to a bunch of 48 hr rollovers. In this case the sender makes the first move and may have to wait longer than expected.

Diane..

Threads just flow and get off an answer to a question. People speculate, they throw out opinions, tell their own tales etc..it's a thread thing...

The Book Bazaar rules apply to the Book Bazaar. The genre threads have looser guide lines. Like posting a link to a book list. Or offering singles.

The Genre forums don't have looser rules, they just have rules that are not followed or enforced wink

The general rules of the forums are that all Bookshelf advertising should be done in the Book Bazaar Forum and no other forum.  Therefore, the Book Bazaar rules would apply to offering.

Since people started to post ads in the Genre Forums, there were red stickies added to those forums where ads could be posted. Books ads are not supposed to be posted outside of those threads. As you look at those forums, you will see how each Genre has decided to follow that. Some have started WL threads. Since the traffic in the genre forums is low so the effects on the site as a whole is minimal by that activity, nothing is done about this unless complaints are received.

The site wants the Wish List lines to be fair and not offer a lot of ways for people to be skipping them.

Waiting until the W possibly turns green or possibly waiting for someone with an auto-request to accept seems like the same kind of wait to me.

I never proposed skipping FIFO. Is it fair to posters or wishers on auto request to enable inactive accounts, accounts with no credits or swap fees available, accounts where the wish list is really just a reminder list that enables them to advance their position and if their number comes up perhaps they want it or maybe not and perhaps or maybe not the courtesy of a reply will be given. I think it is unfair. Personally, I do not believe I am alone in being way tired of multiple time outs. I have my system of dealing with it which is to post if it is green. I may be in the minority but I can live with it.

This seems to be getting a little more complicated than needs be.

Mary - if you want the book snapped up right away try a few different approaches:

  • Post your book! Someone may accept right away. I do not have auto accept on and I always manual accept right away. There is no way for you to post directly to an auto-requestor first, since there is no way of figuring out who wants the book and if auto is on.
  • Advertise it in the Book Bazaar. That's exactly what the bazaar is for. Announce your title and see who requests it first. If it's a wishlisted book, you will not have long to wait for a response.
  • You can also advertise the book in genre specific forum or WishList Multiples (in Book Bazaar).

You can always drop it offer at the library, as you suggested. But why do that if you have so many wishers waiting for the book? It will not sit on the shelf in limbo.

How about six time outs being way too long! Once you post wishlisted,  you are in the time out loop with no way to exit. Not allowed to advertise in the bazaar without multiples and the genre is equally illegal but just not policed as will as bazaar.

I drop off at the library because the system does not allow me to find the next requester on auto request. Simple.

Oh wow. That's a lot of time-outs, definitely frustrating. I wish PBS had a way of knowing when accounts are abandoned. Like maybe putting a log-in restriction or something ("Must log-in at least once every X amount of days/weekly to keep account open.")?

6 time outs would be 12 days at 2 days per each. I have waited way longer than that for books I have requested from members. This issues seems a bit childish to me but what do I know.

Personally, there are many members like me that post and forget about it until it'screquested. No biggie...but if I hated everything about a club I was part of, I wouldn't be in the club any more...that's just me though.

I've learned that lots of patience is needed here!

Donating a book instead of posting just because it's not on auto-request makes me sad.  I don't have any of my WL books on auto request, but I pop in and accept books pretty quickly (usually within a few hours).  I hope that book wasn't something I'm waiting on!!
