The Old Man and The Sea
Author: Ernest Hemingway
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal -- a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, t...  more »

Great, short read. I love Hemingway and once again, so much happens with so little action. I never would have thought that a story about a man fishing out at sea could keep me entertained for 150 pages! I definitely recommend reading it!

Classic story of man vs nature that is laced with deeper meaning. Works as an adventure story and a story to make you think of your place in the world and the parallels in your life. Quick read, but powerful.

I have enjoyed other books by Hemingway, but not this one. Famous and widely-praised though it may be, it simply bored me. Bored me so much that I feel distaste when I even hear of it.

I know this is a classic and I have every reason to love it, but I could not get into it. I gave it a good shot, I promise. It may be a matter of not being in the mood right now, I will give it another shot like I've done for others that everyone but me seems to love. The language was too flowery, the movement was too slow, it was too moody. I still think it's probably a great book, but I didn't love it.

Not my favorite...though it is a short story, it could have been a shorter story. It drug out for me...I've liked some of his other novels better.
