My sister left me several books that are in beautiful condition and told me I could trade them. The ISBNs are either not in the system or they match a completely different book. Some are wishlisted under different ISBNs. I'd really love to trade these and get them to people who like them. Who do I contact about getting these books in the system? Thanks!

Publishers will often reuse ISBNs, especially if they are older books.  You can still post them, you'll just need to use the Post a Book Without an ISBN page.

If they're WL under other ISBN's, you can try advertising them in the book bazaar.

I will also put a tag under the WL version, something like "Also listed with ISBN xxx" to help move the book off my shelf.

This brings up my question.  I have four books that are listed but they are listed as hardback when the copy printed on that ISBN is paperback.  I can post them sans-ISBN but I'm questioning that this is a mistake (looked up one of the books and the publisher never even printed that book in hardback).

Edit: Never asked the question.  Who should I contact about this (I wouldn't worry except that there are already books posted on the same ISBN and I don't want someone getting something than other than what they ordered), or do I just post my books sans-ISBN.

Chris, data errors can be pm'd to the Data Correction Team.  But they will only change the PBS listings if you can provide proof the data is actually in error.  Unfortuately tho, publishers frequently published both the paperback and hardback of some books under the same ISBN, which makes it difficult to prove one or the other was never published under that ISBN.  Could possibly have been a different publisher too, as ISBN usage has changed over the decades.

I sent them correction, right title & ISBN, incorrect author...they were able to research the situation and changed the listing to show the correct author.

Denise put it well: publishers frequently published both the paperback and hardback of some books under the same ISBN

You're welcome to PM anyone with a BIC or BIA button by his/her name, and they'll help you research it.  If this case, I would begin my research by googling the ISBN with the word "hardcover" and would see what came up.

Be sure you don't post them to your bookshelf with the wrong binding.  You can post them without using the ISBN, though, using the link Alisa posted above.  Or you can wait to hear back from the BIC person.
