The title isn't especially aspiring but The Mermaids in the Basement by Michael Lee West is one of the best books I have read in ages.  It is funny and sad. It is bittersweet but refreshing about how the old generation blends into the new.

The strong women in this book shoulder on regardless of whatever adversity they face with grace and humor. I am not from the south, despict my name of AnneLee, and especially take to books about Southern women but their is a character who has moved North who helps us see why these Southern women act as they do. If you read nothing else this summer, read Mermaids in the  Basement.

Warm regards,

L. G. (L)

Okeedoke!  My WL is sure to reach the limit soon.  Thanks for the recommendation.

ETA: Funny thing, there were only 3 books listed in search, the audio and not, and a book with the same name by a different author.  I know titles are not copyrightable, but it is such an unusual title to have 2.

Anne, the book sounds great. I also love books about strong women---my favorite genre! Thanks for the recommendation.

I'm reading The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I know that book's been around awhile, but I never did get it read till now. I'm really enjoying it. I love that the 14 year old heroine is such a strong character, but so are the other women in the story.

Anne, my wife thanks you! Sounds like exactly the kind of book she'll enjoy.

Hi AnneLee-can't wait to give this book a try!  I've read "Crazy Ladies" by this author and just loved it.  I think Michael Lee West might become a new fave author of mine.
