Great story! This was a wonderful novel that takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster. It was funny and sad along the way to its tragic ending. The parts about the band concert, the Christ! musical, the prom, and especially the Sonny and Cher concert were priceless. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Funny/Sad story of a teenager in '70's Mississippi-Wonderfully written, dialogue rings true through out the story. This could have happened anywhere, but it happens in Mississippi. Didn't expect everything that made up the ending, that did take me a little by surprise.

I couldn't put this one down. It made me think after I closed the cover. Childress does such a great job of describing the heat in Mississippi that you feel like you need to turn on the air conditioner.

I really enjoyed this book; it was a quick read with a compelling story line, at times funny and at times deadly serious. It would make a good movie!
