I am pretty new to PBS. I have a quick question regarding how to go about responding to a specific situation. I just posted a book, and it was on someones wish list - and they are requesting it. Looking at their wishlist, they want several books similar to the one they requested - and I have them, but they haven't been posted yet. If the requester was interested, I'd be happy to send multiple books to the same person. However, I am sure these books are on others wish lists, and if/when I post those books, they are going to go out to the top person. Is there any way to prevent that from happening - and trade to the one person? Or is that really going against the system? It sure would be nice to be able to combine shipping with half a dozen books then do each seperately.. Thanks for your advice on this! Jonathan

I think the thing to do would be to PM the person who ordered your book, tell him you have other books he may be interested in and give him the ISBN. If he adds them to his wishlist, then you can post the book directly to his wishlist and bypass the FIFO system. Good luck and welcome to PBS! |

Holly, Thanks for the response. So if that person already has that exact book on their wishlist, I can actually post directly to their wishlist? Jonathan

Yes, as long as the ISBN, title, author and format (hardcover, ppb) matches. If they do not, you should not post the book to that person's wish list. It must be that exact copy. Make sense? Last Edited on: 10/25/07 3:30 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Yep. Thanks for your help. It's nice to know there is a way to handle the situation. It does feel kind of cheating the que system. Still, it would be nice to get several credits on one shipment.
Thanks for your help! This is a great site, and I'm glad I stumbled across it.

Oh, but if the person declines your offer, it will go to the WL as per usual. If you were planning to post them anyway, I'd imagine that wouldn't be a problem! :) |

I do that all the time. I tend to read books in a series and I usually don't post any until I'm done w/the series. So if they are WL I post the 1st one and usually they have the others WL as well. PM and ask first. If they don't have enough credits they have to deny the offer and then they lose their place in the WL line. Be advised though: I have tried to post to someone's WL and it ended up going to someone else. Not sure what happened. Also make sure you post from their WL page and not the book description page. |

I may be the lone voice (please don't flame) but not posting it to the general membership and letting the first ordered first shipped thing work itself out does sound like cheating. Am I the only one who sees it this way? |

No flaming, but it is allowed by the powers that be. They do ask that it not be done too often, but for this poster, it would really make sense to pack them together if possible. |

Lori, it is and it isn't. it helps the sender save on postage and the person that receives the book may be #5 but the next time that book is posted #1 is still going to be #1. Most of the time people don't do it that way, so most of the time the FIFO system is used the way they intended. |

I should say that most of the time I post them to the general WL. But twice now I've posted the 2nd book in a series directly to someone's WL. One time didn't work. I have another book that I'm going to post directly to a buddy's WL because that person has posted 2 directly to my WL and I'd like to return the favor. |
