A less famous contemporary of Alpert and Leary writes lucidly about inner experiences. Mostly non-drug oriented experience. A minor classic, very well written.

Metzner is one of the greatest writers on transformational psychology. This book describes the processes of individual evolutionary transformation, to help those who beginning a transformational phase in their lives who are searching for signposts on their journey. It draws on the writings of Eastern and Western mysticism, comparative mythology, literature, poetry, philosophers, and teachers of esoteric, shamanic, yogic and hermetic traditions, as well as depth and transpersonal psychology.
