So this is the PM I sent regarding a RWAP I received last week:

This is not the correct ISBN for the book I requested. The book you sent me has and ISBN of ## (inside the front cover). This is a mass market edition of which there are numerous copies in the system. The one I am looking for is a trade sized and I now see is not even released until 7/27/2010 with an ISBN ##.
The ISBN on the back of the book you sent me is not in the system but the correct one is on the front cover, on the inside.

I would be very appreciative for my credit back as this is not the book I requested. If you would like this copy back, I will be glad to mail it back but I would need two credits then...one for the book being wrong and one to cover the cost of shipping back to you. Please let me know what you would like to do.
Thanks

My question is, did I ask for a response clearly enough to choose "the sender did not respond to PM asking to discuss this"?  It will be a week tomorrow with no response from the sender and I went and checked the account to make sure its not on vacation, which it isn't and I even noticed that books had been posted to the bookshelf yesterday so they have been online.  Its just been so long since I have had a RWAP and now I am just a little annoyed that they have not responded when they have been online.  I believe I asked clearly enough but just wanted another opinion.

I thought about sending another PM myself but I should probably just do it tomorrow through the "was this problem resolved" spot.  Does anyone know if RWAP pms go to your PM tab here on the site or just emails?

Looks clear enough that the member needs to do something. Did you confirm in your credit registry that they didn't just return the credit without replying? Some do just return the credit and don't acknowledge it.

I am pretty sure the information put in at the time of a RWAP is sent by PM and then that triggers an email too.

Also, check to see if the member's account is on vacation hold.  That may be the cause of the delay in response.

Thanks Melanie, I did check and no such luck.  Sigh.  Just frustrated I guess, lol.  I'm not quite sure how she posted this as the WL book....the ISBN is covered up by a sticker on the back but even if you just put in the title, it brings up the correct book...not the WL one.

BTDT, and yes you were quite clear.  The only thing I would suggest for next time (if you are unlucky enough to have  one) is to include a date by which you would like a response from them, such as "please contact me by X date to let me know how you would like to proceed".  I also always say something like "I will promplty mark this problem transaction as resolved in the PBS system upon the return of my credit".  Since you didn't ask for a date, I think a week is plenty of time.  I would PM them again and say "I contacted you last week regarding a problem transaction and have yet to hear back from you. I would like to have my credit for this book returned because the ISBN does not match the book that I had wish listed, and according to PBS posting rules, the ISBN must match.  I would appreciate my credit being returned by X date, and I will gladly mark this problem transaction as resolved when I receive it.  If you would like the book back, I will send it back if you would like to cover postage with an additional credit.  If I do not hear back from you by X date, I will unhappily mark this transaction as unresolved and contact PBS regarding the unresolved problem."

As to how this book got posted with the wrong ISBN, it happens all the time.  I learned that the hard way when I was trying to collect the trade pb versions of the Outlander series and kept getting the mmpbs.  Usually people are entering the correct ISBN at first, but then when the cover picture doesn't match, they click on the one that does, not realizing that it's a different version.  I think PBS has done everything they can to take the confusion out of the process, but unfortunately (and this is weird to say on a site for readers) people just don't read.  Sorry this happened to you, and hope you get your credit back.

Oh, and if you have this problem more than once, here's how I ended up dealing with it.  I put on a RC that said "This WL book is for the trade paperback version of X book.  Please make sure that the ISBN of your book matches the ISBN of the book I have wish listed.  If the ISBN does not match, please decline this request."  Make sure the book is NOT on autorequest, and then you can just turn on the RC when the book is posted to you.  Good luck.

she probably didn't try to remove the sticker and just used the 1 in the front assuming it was the same. Now she is probably ignoring your PM hoping you'll drop it.

Thanks Lesley, I think I will send a PM similiar to what you wrote.  And thats exactly what I'm doing...WLing the trade paperpacks versus the mmpb (oh which there are 555 copies of the book I was sent).  I have not had this happen before (so I hope it doesnt again) but adding the RC as you stated is not a bad idea :)  The cover of the one I was sent doesn't even match the cover of the WL edition...thats why its so odd b/c when you type in just the title, the right book and cover come up...as there are 555 copies of it, lol :)

Mary, I tried to tell her in my PM that if she would have looked inside the front cover, the correct ISBN was there.  I have a feeling she is hoping I am going to drop it but I dont really feel like it, lol :)

I wonder if she purposely posted it wrong because she wanted to get rid of it and get a credit asap instead of being 556 in the FIFO line.

That could be why she's ignoring you. She was hoping you wouldn't notice or care and now that you do she doesn't know what to do so she's just ignoring it.

There are far too many people who search for and post books by title/author instead of by ISBN. Of the very few RWAPs I have had, half of them are this exact thing...sending the wrong version of a wishlisted book, usually the MMPB when I want only the hardcover--because I've already read the paperback and want the HC for my Keeper shelf. So far I've not had any hassle with people after I explain, though. I hope you get it resolved...

Yes Lisa, you've provided enough information & time to mark this member as unresponsive (although a specific date can be helpful).

Like Cheryl, it amazes me how many members seem to post by some method other than ISBN  surprise  which is a problem waiting to happen.

Thanks everyone, I thought I was clear enough but after reading the help docs I just wanted to make sure.  I think I will send her a PM with what I had sent her already but mentioning that if I dont hear back by tomorrow, I will mark it unresponsive and let it go from there.  My thinking is running along the same way as yours Amee..maybe she just wanted a quick credit.

I think this is only the second or third RWAP I have had and the previous times they sender was very nice and quickly resolved the issue.  It is so frustrating that this happens...the rules are pretty clear...post the ISBN of the book you have.  Sigh.  Oh well...lol

That was my first instinct also. Version=heavily posted, version 2=heavily WLed. Both similar and she wants that darned credit. I think she took a chance and it bit her on the butt.

I would keep in mind that it is summer and a lot of people go on vacation...and not everyone thinks to put their shelf on vacation hold.  She might be out of town, so I would not assume the worst of this person.  It could be an honest mistake on her part and she may just be away from her computer.  Send one more polite PM, give a deadline for her to respond, and if you don't hear from her, then mark it unresolved.  If nothing else, she might learn why it's important to put your shelf on vacation hold.  But I would not jump to the conclusion that she's avoiding you on purpose.

Lesley, when I pulled up her account to check to see if if was on vacation hold, it wasn't but I did notice that she had posted books to her shelf on 7/19 so I knew she had at least been online.  I sent her a PM basically saying what you stated above and I did get a response back from her:

Apologies for the oversight. When I originally requested the book from the system, I never checked to see if the ISBN number listed on the post matched the book I received in the mail.

So, when the system asked if I wanted to automatically list it on my bookshelf I didn't think twice. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it wasn't right to begin with thus perpetuating the problem.

I will refund your credit.

So it seems she also requested the WL version and got the wrong one but didnt notice it...?  Huh.  Whatever, so as I get the credit back I will mark it resolved.  Looking like a good ending :)  Thanks for all the input.
