What is the flyleaf actually?  I always assumed it was a blank page or the first page where you would find the title, author & publisher.  But I now find myself trying to determine what the flyleaf actually is or is not, and can I send this book to the requestor or not.

Here is my dilemma.  Have a book that has been requested, looks like it was read once and in good condition except for initials 2 times on the first page which is not blank, it has a brief excerpt from the story and once each on the second page that has the affore mentioned title, author & publisher and the third page which lists the author's numerous other books.  None of the initials interfere with any text.  I am assuming the initials belong either the previous owner or possibly a UBS since there is also what looks like tiny date as well that has been partially erased

However the help section was quite specific about writing saying that:

  • a signature or note on the flyleaf or inside front or back cover is OKAY
  • an author's signature on the title page is OKAY
  • writing or highlighting on the text pages is NOT OKAY
  • These initals are definitely not the author's, and while they are technically text pages, as the really are not in the body of the book, or are they?

So is this postable or not?

I'd say it is.  I don't know exactly what a flyleaf is (and the dictionary.com definitions some include the page with text and some don't by my reading).

I would say that is perfectly fine to post.  I have posted books that have names on that first page and also names one more page in... still not the title page.. but like you.. I don't know all the book page names before the text starts :  )

I don't see a problem at all with the initials.

Thank you ladies, I was kind of leaning towards posting, but unsure enough I thought I'd ask.  Lord knows I do not want to stumble upon a RWAP thread and find it's about me!!

    Thanks again for your input

I recently requested a book and before sending it, the sender gave me a PM that explained a small problem with that book, which made it borderline for being in the rules of posting.  As it didn't sound like it would in any way interfere with my actually reading the book, I accepted it.  I appreciated that she took the time to do that.  I think most people would.
