Yesterday I posted numerous books in the Book Bazaar's Wishlist Multiple thread.  One of which was Flour Power : A Guide To Modern Home Grain Milling, an instructional guide with some recipes.  This copy contains a few highlighted pages which I noted.

A member contacted me about the book.  She states the book is unpostable and does not want to order additional book.

Interested in what the consensus is on the situation.

I think according to pbs it is postable. It's an instructional cookbook? It's fine.

It has an ISBN # and has 15 wishers, If it was not postable, PBS would have removed it by now.

If it is a cookbook, I believe underlining and some other things are allowed, as long as you let the requester know about them.

Here's what PBS says about cookbooks:

    • Exception: Cookbooks may have some mild staining, since these are used in the kitchen and while cooking, and some minor degree of staining could be expected in a used cookbook.  Also a small amount of writing in cookbooks could be expected
      • HOWEVER, if you post a cookbook and it is stained and/or written-in, the condition must be described to the requestor in a Personal Message
      • AND the described condition MUST BE AGREED TO in a reply PM before the book is sent
      • You can use the PM button on the request on your My Account page to send a message
      • This is the one of the ONLY three cases in which a PM exchange about a book is required before the book can be sent (the others are for travel guidebooks and textbooks/workbooks--see above).
  • this exception applies to the covers of cookbooks also.

Hope that helps!

Wanted to add, if she doesn't want to choose 2 books then you aren't obligated to send her just one book. It is the WL Multiples thread, after all. I would let her know that she could choose another book or cancel her order.

Writing in any book is perfectly postable as long as you PM the requestor (or clearly note in the offer post in your case) the type and scope of writing and wait for them to answer with an indication of acceptance before mailing (or making the order in your case).

Your book is postable, so I guess wait and see if someone else wants it.

It's on my wish list and I would accept it.

Wanted to correct this...PBS will not remove a book based on condition because there is no place for people to list conditions of their books.  In order for a book to be "postable" by PBS standards, it must meet the PBS Posting Criteria.  Each member must follow these guidelines when posting.  As was stated, a book with highlighting/writing IS postable, but the person posting it must contact the member prior to sending and receive verification that they are okay with the highlighting/writing.

To read4thesoul...regarding this situation with the WLM.  :)  Your member is incorrect and you can direct her to the Help Center stating the guidelines for writing/highlighting.  You aren't obligated to send her just 1 book if she doesn't want this cookbook, but you'll need to be the one to cancel the transaction (if you've already started it) so she doesn't lose her place in the WL line.  Then you can see if anyone else wants it as a WLM.

If you have any questions, please PM me!  :)

Would not want to engage in the transaction with this history on any terms. Just move on.

I guess I should have been more specific. I wasn't referring to condition of book.  Sorry for misinformation. :(
