Orbit is the kind of book that is very good on CD because the story is intense and with few main characters, it is very easy to follow on CD. Kip is an unhappily married man, with strained relationships with his children and a lot of regrets about his life, who wins a lottery and a trip aboard a spacecraft orbiting earth. No one in his life seems to care very much about what he wants, and although his family bitterly opposes his taking this trip, he decides to go anyway.
Through a freak accident, he is marooned in space with no communication to earth and only a few days of oxygen. Kip decides to spend his last 5 days of life before the oxygen runs out composing a reflection on the most important events and relationships of his life on a laptop computer that he believes no one will see in his lifetime. Instead, his most private thoughts are getting through to earth via a web downlink - and around the globe millions of people are following his line by line dissection of his life, and how he wishes he could have changed it. It would have been improved with more reactions from his family and acquaintances on earth as they heard his most private thoughts, but all in all, a very good book on CD.
