I ordered them on April 19 and they never arrived after being marked as mailed. I PMd the sender and a few days later now I get a message they were just mailed out today. TODAY? I would like to forget this but she mailed them without asking me if I still wanted to continue...I don;t. I want to spend my 2 credits to get books for the baby that will actually arrive. do I have any options here?

I believe that there is something in the Help docs that says if books are mailed AFTER they have already been marked lost, then you don't have to mark them received.   But I can't find it.  Maybe someone else can?

Not really.  When the books arrive, fill out the survey and be sure and note the mailing date.  I'd even put the message in the "anything else we should know about this transaction" box that the books were marked mailed on X date but actually mailed on X date.  The sender will get a reminder from PBS and if this is a chronic thing they risk their account.

The only thing I could find Lynne was "Lost books must be marked received when/if they arrive, to keep your account in good standing."

This is what I found:

If you are mailing a book VERY late and the book has already been marked lost in the Mail at PBS, you must contact the requestor using the PM button on the lost in mail transaction in your Transaction Archive, to be sure that the requestor still wants the book.

  • If she replies that she does still want it you can mail it to her.  She can mark it received from her Transaction Archive and you will get credit at that time.
  • If she replies that she does not want it (she may have gotten a copy from someone else in the meantime), you should repost the book for someone else to request.
  • If she does not respond to your PM, you should repost the book.  It will be offered to her automatically if she still wants a copy.
  • You should not mail a "lost" book to the original requestor unless she has confirmed that she still wants it in a Personal Message.  If you mail it and she has already gotten another copy, she will NOT be obligated to mark the book received, or to return it to you.

William - one question.. are the books from the original sender?  Because once the books go lost your request goes to the next person in line if there are copies in the system, otherwise it moves to your WL.  So it is possible the books mailed are from an entirely new sender.  You can click on your Transaction Archive on your account page to compare the names on the request with the books marked lost.

Mendy, lost books go to your reminder list if they're available in the system. They go to your wish list if they're not.

and after I sent  couple pms ...she just said she forgot and mailed them out today. But this is 4 weeks later....and it was a special book I wanted for the baby. My Munchkin really loves books and i found one of her favorite song...sigh...now I need to wait for another 3 or 4 weeks to see if they actually arrive, DARN!  There are other copies listed in the system but my credits are tied up in this one.

There is one exception, if she's mailing the books after they've already been marked "lost" by the system, and your request was forwarded to the next person in line.  Per the Help Center:

  • "*If the book was mailed late and had already been declared Lost at PBS before it was mailed (and you re-requested the book and got it from someone else), this is an exception:
    • If a sender wants to mail a book that has been declared Lost at PBS already she needs to contact you with a Personal Message asking you to confirm that you still want the book from her, and
    • You would need to have confirmed that you still wanted her copy of the book in a Personal Message in reply to hers before she mailed it.
    • If a sender sends a book this late without getting confirmation from you that you have not gotten another copy in the meantime, the sender has made the mistake here; in this case,  you are not obligated to mark the lost book received nor are you obligated to return the extra copy."

Cheers,

Catt
