Just feeling like venting a little.

I had ordered 2 books from a member which was for a deal only to receive a different book. I have been wanting the books I requested for a while now & this being the first time this has even happened to me in the 3 years I've been on here is frustrating. Not only but that, the book I received is definitely not in postable condition. It has tons of stains on the pages - brown stains of some sort?

I'm just hoping the sender does try to fix the problem instead of shrugging it off as their loss because I'll end up with an unpostable book that I do not want.

And if I do happen to end up mailing the book to the correct person, should I be given an extra credit by the main sender as it was their error?

Yes you should be given an extra credit or sometimes people send money in the amount of the postage for sending the book on to the proper person and hopefully another person accidentally got your book and is willing to send it on.  Other members have talked about how a  sender mixes up the books but the person who got the wrong book wants to keep it.

If I understand your post correctly, you ordered 2 books in some sort of credit deal but one of the books is wrong?

Unfortunately, PBS does not really offer any recourse in the case of deals gone bad, as deals are done outside of the official site functions.

Did you order either of the books "officially", thru the site? If you did, and the book you ordered is either the one that is missing from the order, or is the one that is damaged, then you can follow normal procedures for marking the book RWAP. (Don't mark the missing book RWAP, just don't mark it received if it is the book that is missing).

But if the book you officially ordered is the postable book that you received ... you are pretty much out of luck, as officially you spent a credit and got a postable book. Unfortunately, that's all that the site rules ensure.

Sorry!

Just a thought -- if the brown marks are "foxing" (there's a wikipedia article on foxing), foxing in and of itself doesn't make a book unpostable.  Someone needs to do experiments to nail down the causes of foxing, but it may be caused by a chemical process that takes place as paper ages.  There would be no sign of liquid damage such as stiffened or rippled paper, or an evaporation ring at the outside of the stain,

Sara,

I did a deal -- 4 books for 2 credits. I didn't receive any of my books, I received a completely different book someone else was supposed to receive.

Patty,

What I see is very different from foxing. These are dark brown stains on multiple pages & some pages are torn. Some of them are definitely fingerprint brown stains. They are not specks of brown, more like smears.

The sender has messaged me back -- going to email me a pre-paid label to send to the proper person as the other requestor has said they'd mail me my books as well.

Here are some pictures:

http://tinypic.com/r/2yn3053/5 -- Seem to be a lot of pencil markings.

http://tinypic.com/r/2eyi99g/5 -- Looks like the pages were maybe stuck together at some point/pulled apart?

I'm just kinda paranoid about sending it on because since I'm the next person to have the book, the smears & markings may get blamed on me.

Yeah, those brown stains in the first image aren't foxing -- they appear to be liquid of some sort.  Since they aren't your books, though, wait until you get the ones you ordered, then evaluate those in terms of whether they are in good condition, or unpostable meriting a report of a problem.

They probably offered the other person teh damaged one as a freebie with their order then mixed the labels up when wrapping books.

Yep, stains, not foxing.

That book should never have been posted or sent. PaperbackSwap prohibits dirty books.

I receive them sometimes, even though my Condition Request includes a wish that books be clean.

I know that, but maybe the other member didn't read the guidelines?

& since I've had it last, I'm just worried about the stains getting blamed on me.

They may not have had the book posted on their shelf. Many members offer unpostable books as a freebies with book orders.

If that's the case, then why would I just have gotten that one book?

I'm just going to wait until I get my books to see if they're in the same condition or not.

If the stained book is a WL book, the other member may be sending it for a credit.  You can ask for a credit for unpostable books in the book bazaar.  Some members are willing to pay a credit for an unpostable, even if it is stained.
