  Phone rings.

“Hello”

“Afternoon Mam, this is Doug from the dealer service department. We checked your car out real thorough and besides the manufacturer recall, we made a list of some things that need attention. Gotta paper and pencil?”

“Okay, go ahead.”

“Coolant is leaking. The hose needs to be replaced. That’s $530.
The fan belt needs to be replaced. It’s all dried out and could snap any day now. $300.
Need new wiper blades. $54.
Brake fluid is low. $186.
Need rear tires and a four wheel alignment. $448 for tires and $214 for alignment.
Valve cover needs to be replaced. It’s leaking. $150.
And the spoiler on the belly pan needs to be replaced. Looks like ya hit sumthin. $453.
We can’t fix the broken on-off knob on the radio. A new radio, installed, will be $652.”

kaching kaching kaching kaching kaching kaching ……….

“Total: $2987 plus tax.”

“Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.” ……phone drop clatter. Bang. Bump. Gasping.

“Hello? ……. Mam?
……Mam? …..
………Are you there Mam?........
…………………………………. Mam?…………
Hello, Hello?....”

With thirty some years in the automobile business, how could something like this put me on the floor? Must be the $500 I paid for that used 1953 Dodge back in ’56, just yesterday.
