This is a very enlightening book about our public education system. It is a dry topic, but the book is worth the time to read.

This is one of the best books I have read explaining why the current educational system is not working for our kids. I could never explain it before and others did not believe me when I tried to tell them that my kids were not learning the basics in the public schools. After I read this I was able to talk about educational policies and procedures that are now standard throughout the US that are putting our children further and further behind. Worth the read especially if you are already or are interested in homeschooling.
