This book helped me see clearly the denial I was having. I can minimize what was going on as a child in my life and remember secrets that were hidden. I know now I was making excuses for the abusers. I was rationalizing and having selective memory of what happen. I've buried the past memories. This book helps you to bring up memories and deal with them in your own way. This book talks about anger. Why me you ask? I know now feeling angry is natural. When your angry, gain control and try to ask yourself questions. This book talks about self esteem. One should know they have much to offer and they are a great person that's very loveabke and giving. Many that were abused protects themselves in many ways. This book talks about that. Overall I learned many things from this book and it made me look at the abuse through different eyes and see how I can and will handle the abuse after all these years. The book is a quick read, but you will want to take notes as you go. I did and it's helped me to go back to reread my notes and to be able to talk them over with my spouse.

This secular resource was helpful to me in that it gave language to particular topics I might not have thought I needed. Gil has put together a helpful little resource to help adults who experienced abuse as children determine more clearly what it was that may have taken place, while addressing some of the "survival skills" that may have been gained and maintained for several years during and after the events.

I appreciated this resource for its clarity and brevity. The purpose is to identify issues, not necessarily to resolve them. It's a book one might use to come to terms with the reality of abuse and begin to deal with it using other resources for follow up.
