Owl Moon Author:Jane Yolen, John Schoenherr (Illustrator) Among the greatest charms of children is their ability to view a simple activity as a magical adventure. The two walked through ... more »the woods with nothing but hope and each other in a journey that will fascinate many a child. John Schoenherr's illustrations help bring richness to the countryside adventure. This book won the 1988 Caldecott Medal.« less
This book is great!
The author writes with so much description that you
Can actually "hear" the snow in the book.
Brought me back to my cold winter days as a child.
Good one to break out with the kidos.
In my experience, Owl Moon by Jane Yolen is the best children's book ever. It is a really sweet story of a young girl and her father taking a walk at night in the woods. The illustrator John Schoenherr uses acrylic wash to paint beautiful pictures of their walk. He has hidden in plain sight the wild creatures of the woods. I was caught by surprise more than once, finding an animal for the first time although I had read the book previously. My three year old grandson asks me to read Owl Moon and each time we have a wonderful time together.
