Search - Oyster : A Novel

Set in the Louisiana bayuos in 1957, two families are in an old fued over the area oyster beds. When the Petijean note on their house and boat comes due, 57 year old Horse Bruneau who holds the note makes a deal with them to release them from the debt by marrying Therese, their 17 year old daughter. But Therese takes matters into her own hands and Horse ends up dead. His sons swear to get revenge. The saga continues and the trajedies and surprises just keep comming. I loved the characters in the book as well as the story line.

Set in the oyster fishing culture of South Louisiana, a deep secret leads to a murder, which leads to a murder, which leads... well. There's a good bit of violence in this one, but it's a pretty complex plot with a lot of back story. It's built around a strong, single minded young woman and a trio of brothers from a rival family, all of which take family seriously. Biguenet did a great job describing a culture and a landscape that most people will never see. It's a unique setting for a pretty unique book. While I wasn't blown away by it, I'm glad I read it.
