When I get a parcel that has packing peanuts, I dump them into a  new garbage can I bought for just that purpose.  These are great for filling up the bottom of the larger flower pots and planters  that you use on your deck, patio, etc.  Fill bottom about 2/3 full of the peanuts and finish with your potting soil and plants.

These serve a couple of purposes, saves really a lot of  weight (saves the back), saves money on potting soil and no need for gravel, rocks or shard of pottery for drainage in the bottom.
