I am not going to do a June book group since there doesn't seem to be much interest with everyone being busy with summer. I'll try to pick up with this again in the fall. Thanks for all the great book ideas. I might read a few on my own.

I'd like to get feedback or the format for the discussions. Do you like dividing the book into sections and discussing it that way or do you think you would rather read the whole book and discuss the it all at once?

Also need feedback on the time. I know 6 pm is early for the westcoasters but it's worknight for us on the east coast. Any suggestions for a better time?

Also, we need to pick the April book soon so I'm taking suggestions for that. You can pick from the list we have in post 1 or you can suggest others. We'll narrow it down to a top 5 then vote.

Hi Sheila!

Here's where the discussion started. We're still working out some details.

Sheila,

Have you seen the thread in the CMT(club member's thoughts) forum?  Kathi thought of this great idea.  She is "spearheading" it for the first month.  We are waiting on her to tell us which books we can vote on.

I am excited and ready to go......

Sheila--I just noticed we have a 49% similarity rating.  That is the highest I have seen so far.  Neat...

We should have someone design a signature icon for all of us to use.  Anyone know how?

I understand now. I do not venture into the CMT very often so I had not seen the original post.

I participate in the book group in the Classics forum. We have had some good and interesting discussions. I like discussing books with others . . . it enhances my understanding of the book. A couple of things you may want to address before you start is whether you want to use books that are readily available here vs. waitlist books and the time frame (you almost have to pick a book a minimum of 2-3 weeks in advance of discussing to give people time to order and receive the book, etc. ). These are two things we had to work out with the Classics book group.

You have some good suggestions for books to read. I plan to participate when a book I'm interested in is chosen :-)

Wow Paula, we do have a high similarity rating.

Sorry folks! I was so tired last night I went to bed at like 7:30!

We have a tie!

I have 2 thoughts about this. One, we could allow both books. YOu wouldn't have to participate with both books but you can if you want. And I think I could read both books. In fact I want to read both. LOL Or I can send out a tie breaker and see if we can get a definitive answer.

Whatcha think?

Oh yeah, you want to know what book?  This month we'll read either

Shoot the Moon by Billie Letts or We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

I would suggest Shoot the Moon, just because there are 102 copies in the system.  That way we should all be able to have to get them from here.  There are no copies of We Need to Talk About Kevin, here or at Book Mooch.

I've decided we'll read Shoot the Moon for February. For many reasons. Mostly cause it isn't as controversial as Kevin or as dark . Shoot the Moon is easily available, while Kevin is a WL book and will involve acquiring elsewhere. I think holding off on that one to give everyone a chance to get it is a good idea. Going thru PMs that was what most of you wanted. I understand not wanting to commit to 2 books and it was more an either or but this will work out since most that have volunteered to be host/hostess don't want to try it til after we've gone thru a few months. So it's Shoot the Moon this month and We Need To Talk About Kevin for March.

This sounds like fun.  I need to go dig thru the TBR.

Well...I tried for a blinkie thing since I'm bored.  But it's so little, you can't tell it's Mr. Peanut.  Oh well.  Back to the drawing board.  Killed Mr. Peanut...tried two more.  What d'ya think?

And editted yet again...ok, Mr. Peanut is back.  I'll remove all those in the morning.  Just thought I'd offer them up.

Oh I like that Mr Peanut one Kay! Can you fix it so PBS is PBS and not pbs???   There's a couple others that someone made too. Maybe Wendy can post them. I also like Linda's avatar.  I used to be able to do things like that but since my computer crashed I don't have the software anymore.  But I think a peanut reading a book is a great idea.<G>

Take a look at the pix in my signature.  I cannot take credit for it....Rebecca P. (wrongheaven) very nicely created this for me.

If you want to use it then PM me and I can get it out to you.

Thanks Rebecca P !! :)

ETA: I will try to fix it later tonight so that the whole pix shows up...looks like part of the bottom got cut off.

That's right Linda. We'll start on the 1st. Once I get my hands on the book I'll see how we'll break down the discussion. I'll send out a blast PM with the breakdown and discussion start up times. You all gotta bear with me. This is my first time doing this so any ideas are welcome.
