I am not able to look at my transaction details. I have a book I ordered 2 weeks ago, I want to check the details, because I think the sender let it cancel before mailing it, even though it says it is on the way. However, everytime I try to click on transaction details it won't do anything. In my credit registry it says that the book was cancelled, yet I don't have my credit back from it.

Is it possible that as soon as the sender cancelled, someone mailed it out to me? I'm really confused!

I was wondering though if people can't check their transaction details this morning?

Thanks!

I believe, and I could be wrong, that if a transaction is cancelled, it will not show up in your archive.

 I have a book I ordered 2 weeks ago

So, for clarification - did you actually receive the book?

If a book is cancelled, it should show up in your Transaction Archive.  Mine is working fine. I suggest you send in Feedback and tell them you cannot access it.   BTW;  how does a cancelled book show up in your Credit Registry??

If the sender cancelled an order, and there was another copy in the system, FIFO automatically orders it again for you. So you could have seen the first order time out/cancel and also see it on its way because the second person sent it and that's where credit went.

Not sure why you can't see your transactions though.

Okay, so now my transaction archive is working. I have not received the book yet, but what has happened is it looks like two different people are mailing it! As far as I can tell though I only sent 1 credit to one person. I received an email from the first person on the day it was supposed to go out. She had been away and just got on PBS that day, and wanted to know if I still wanted it. However, the book had already been mailed, so I just thanked her for mailing it.

Now looking back, I see that it was cancelled by PBS at 3:02 am, when it must have gone to the second person who had it. It was accepted by her at 10:08, label printed at 10:09 am and it was mailed at 10:10 am! The first person must have then gone ahead and mailed it to me, with neither of us knowing someone else was sending it! How do I handle this? Should I just explain it all to the first person, and buddy her a credit when I get the book? I really didn't want to copies but can relist or just give it to someone else. It moved so quickly from the first person to the next, I didn't get any notification of the second person wanting it, and I didn't have it auto requested!

I just checked all my old emails from PBS on Dec. 4 and 5th, and I have nothing from them showing that the transaction was canceled then went immediately to another PBS member. I do have an email from when it was mailed out.

This girl is new, and I don't know if mine was her first book to send or not, but I don't understand how she could have printed out the label and mailed it if it was canceled. She did send me a message asking me to confirm the address, because I had the book sent to my daughter who lives in another state. I just sent her a pm telling her all this and asking her what happened on her end, so I can understand.

I had no idea that the changeover from cancellation to next book in the system was so quick! That's good, but now I know why I was so confused!

From the Help Center:

  • You are not obligated to give a second credit for a canceled copy of a book when you submitted only one request
    • You are also not obligated to send the book back (although this is a nice thing to do if the sender is a new member).
    • You are obligated to mark the book received that is on your En Route to Me tab on My Account.
  • If you do wish to give credit to Sender #1, you can mark that copy of the book received from the canceled transaction:
    • Go to  your Transaction Archive:
      • place your cursor over My Account in the toolbar at the top of the site
      • Click Transaction Archive in the menu that drops down
      • you can also click the link 'Transaction Archive" from the My Account page

Thanks Layne for that information!

I was trying to find this out... do we not get email notification when a book is cancelled, and then again when it goes to the next person in line? I thought I had before, but didn't for this particular book.

I'm not 100% sure about getting notification when an order is cancelled - it's been a while since I've had that problem (thank goodness). But you should have got another email when the order went to the second person.

To check to see if an email was sent, you can go to your main page and click on Club Communications, located in the yellow bar beneath the tabs for your bookshelf, wishlist, buddy list, etc.  It will show there all emails sent to you by PBS.

You do not get an email notification when a book is cancelled by PBS and goes to the next person. You will see that in your Transaction Archive.  You will get two copies of the same book.  As Layne told you, you are not obligated to mark the cancelled book received because that will give that member a credit.  The book on your "en route to me" tab is the book you mark received.  Or, you will be paying two credits for the same two books.  If the first  person would like you to mail the book back to her, you should ask for a credit for the postage.  Otherwise, you can post the first book in your Bookshelf if you wish.

Well, thanks for that information too! I didn't know we could see what emails PBS had sent!

I checked and no they didn't send an email for either the cancellation or the new order. Is there anything I can do so that this girl doesn't lose a book? Credits are precious to me right now, so I would rather not send her one if I don't have to, but I feel bad for her! Should I contact R&R about this, and if so, how do I do that?

"This girl is new, and I don't know if mine was her first book to send or not, but I don't understand how she could have printed out the label and mailed it if it was canceled"

She could have printed out the label in time but didn't mail it by the deadline.

BTW: we both posted at the same time. See my previous post to you.  Also R&R rather not get involved in disputes like this. You must decide what to do on your own. You have quite a few choices.

She obviously printed out the label and then didn't mark it mailed on time.  So the system sent the request on to the next person.  Who followed the rules.  Normally I would say the 1st person should be out the credit for their mistake. Buy since she PM'd you first and you told her to send the book, I think she should get a credit.  You should have checked your transaction history to make sure it wasn't sent to another person.  You can tell by the dates if it's gone on to another person.  I had something similar to me happen and I was able to cancel the 2nd request before it was accepted.  I was doing a 3/1 deal with someone and she forgot to mark the book mailed.  So I didn't want it passed on to someone else.

This is a perfect example of why you should never mail a book you want credit for unless you have a transaction sitting on your screen with a "Book Has Been Mailed" button that you can click.

If the transaction was canceled because you couldn't mail the book on time, PM to apologize, then repost it to your shelf. Either the original requestor's transaction has gone on to another member and she doesn't need your book, or she's now #1 on the wish list and will get offered your book anyway.

Yes Mary I understand what you're saying, it's just that it all happened so quickly and the first book was canceled in the middle of the night, I didn't have a chance to see it had canceled. Actually the first one was canceled at 3:02 am and the second book was sent to me at 3:02 am, not even as a "do I want it" the system just accepted it for me. As I said when she pm'ed me asking if I still wanted the book, and I saw it had been mailed, I assumed that she had already sent it, without waiting for my reply. If it had taken a day or so for this to happen I would have noticed, as it has happened to me before!

I will probably either offer her the credit or to send it back to her, as I feel bad because she's new. I wouldn't want to negatively affect the way she thinks of us here! I tell everyone I know about PBS!!

Cathy,

I agree with you totally, however, it wasn't me mailing the book, it was a book I had requested.

I think the difference with your transaction and why you didn't get an e-mail is that the transaction "timed-out" in the system vs getting cancelled. When a transaction is cancelled, you get a PM, when a transaction passes a dead-line and the system times them out and moves on to the next shelf, you do not. I have been frustrated with the FIFO auto ordering stuff a few times because it is so behind the scenes no trail left behind. It is also why I REALLY hate it when people mark it mailed as soon as they print the label instead of when it is actually mailed out because it allows for no room to see what happened and fix it.

It is up to you if you want to give a credit. Technically you do not have to. Since you told her to go ahead and send the book, maybe you can tell her you are relisting it and when you get the credit for it, you will buddie it to her.
