This book needs to be marked as mailed within the next 59.1 hours. (Even if you mail it tomorrow)

I have a book that needs to be marked mailed Monday the 27th. Normally I mail asap but I plan on mailing this book tomorrow if the requestor does not contact me (something we had arranged with prior pm's).

So today my main PBS page displays this book separately from the others I have to mail and has the above notation encouraging me to mark it mailed even if I am mailing it tomorrow.  I feel guilty if I mark it before I go to the PO but maybe this is only done on Sundays knowing that the PO is closed today.  Since I have 59 hours left I don't see the rush and will probably wait until tomorrow.   Has anyone else received this message?

Jeannie -when you marked I can mail - did you click on 2 days or I can mail later and choose a date.   Are you using PBS postage and DC?  I just wrapped used PBS postage and dc and marked it mailed because I dropped it in the blue box at the PO.....it is Sunday - but it is mailed.

If you are using the PO/stamps then I would marked it mailed - send a PM to the requestor and let them know and ask them if you want to send a PM to confirm it was mailed tomorrow.  I did this accidently once - marked it mailed on a sunday - when I actually wanted to print the wrapper.  I just PM'd the sender told them what I did and they were ok with it.  At least there is a record in your PMs.

That sounds new maybe in an effort to stop all the "I mailed the book but forgot to mark it mailed" people.  Bigger, flashier warnings.

Did you choose Monday as the mail by date? If so then it should give you until Wed to mark it mailed.

This book needs to be marked as mailed within the next 59.1 hours. (Even if you mail it tomorrow)

59.1 would be sometime on Wed wouldn't it?  So that's right-that you would need to mark it mailed by then to get your credit.

I think you are right, I did see a few of the posts that felt PBS hadn't reminded them enough.  This reminder is in addition to the regular column that has my "books to mail". So now I have 7 columns on my main page:

1) Books offered to me

2) Books to mail - this one with the special mark mailed (Even if you mail it tomorrow) info.

3) Books to mail (my regular ones plus the special one reminded about above)

4) Books requested

5) Books in route to me

6) Books I've mailed

7) Wish list holds

Looks new to me too.   As far as the calculation on time to mail, I think that is correct.  I was just commenting in the newness (sp?) of the feature and PBS asking me to sort of fib on the mailing date.  Some people watch that on their end and I've seen posts refer to how someone marked the book as mailed on a Sunday or holiday, how could that be etc.     Not me I don't check the books on the way to me that closely.

I think you are misinterpreting it. It is saying that it needs to be marked no later than 59.1 hours, regardless of whether you mail it tomorrow or at the end of 59.1 hours. It is not telling you to mark it before you mail it, just letting you know what your deadline is to mark it mailed. It sounds new and I haven't seen it. I have some books in my to be mailed tab going out by Tuesday, but they appear normal. Did you by chance print PBS postage that will go stale in 59.1 hours? I am wondering if it has to do with that.

Melanie - here's the cut and paste:

This book needs to be marked as mailed within the next 57.3 hours. (Even if you mail it tomorrow)

I think your interpretation is much better than mine was now that I read it again.  I'm not sure i understand the purpose of the  (Even if you mail it tomorrow) part though.

I agree it is strange, but there seems to be a lot of people missing marking their books mailed lately so they may be trying to stress it more.

Yeah I'm not getting the "mail it tomorrow part".  But I do think it's an effort to get people to not to forget to mark things mailed.  I don't know much good it will do. It seems to me if you log on to see that then are going to remember to mark it mailed.  I think the problem  is with people who don't come on PBS much and so they forget.  I have never forgotten to mark a book mailed because I am here everyday and can see that Books To Mail Tab.

right but since she was in the hospital she never saw the warning. That's my point is that anyone who comes here everyday would mark it mailed just form seeing it in their Books To Mail tab so I'm not sure it will really help.  But anyone who doesn't come one won't see that to mark it mailed.  They send out email reminders but some people ignore them and then some people have life get in the way.
