Gosh, I really do want to support PBS so I ordered from it. But it seems like it wasn't until I checked out and saw the confirmation email that I realized how long it could take. I looked back and saw that before ordering, the site doesn't giving shipping estimates.

I ordered on 6/14 and got this in the email: "Your Super Seller book(s) will be shipped 7-10 business days after your purchase. You will receive an e-mail when your order ships.  Books are mailed via USPS Media Mail and typically take 4 to 14 business days to arrive."

Having it shipped media mail I would have expected, but not that it wouldn't be shipped for 7-10 business days post placing the order. Now I'm leaving Saturday for a trip that the book was for and I still haven't gotten an email saying it has shipped. So I think I'm going to buy the electronic version the night before I go if it's not here yet.

I think that in the future I'll just order from PBS when it's a book I don't want or need to read soon.

The ones I have ordered from PBS have usually arrived very quickly. They may just use those guidelines for the worst case scenario. I hope you get your book before leaving!

I haven't ordered from PBS Market for a while but I thought my last order took a little longer than I expected it to - maybe 2 weeks from order to receipt. My order was shipped through Smart Mail - which starts off using DHL but is actually delivered by the USPS.

I ordered 3 books from the PBS Market in early May -- it took about 4 days for my payment to be processed, then another 2-3 days before I received shipment confirmation, and then it took about 3 weeks for the books to be delivered.  Disappointing and frustrating, yes, but the books were brand-new hardcovers and incredibly cheap (none of the books cost more than $4.00 + a credit), so I didn't complain too much.  HOWEVER, with that being said, if I had paid more than $10.00 + a credit for each book, I would have been quite ticked off about the delay in billing, shipping and delivery.

I have an Amazon Prime account, so I can get new hardcovers for about the same price (or less) and have them delivered in 2 business days for free.  So I have learned to ONLY use the PBS Market for super-cheap wishlist books.

I ordered 3 books from the PBS Market and also felt that they took a long time to arrive.  They didn't ship until the last day of the estimate and then took about a week and a half to get here.  I agree, Amazon is usually much quicker.

It doesn't always take that long, but it can and does sometimes so I definitely wouldn't order from them if you need a book quickly, I wouldn't ever order from anywhere that used media mail if I need the book in less than 2 weeks.

I still can't find on the site where the shipping/delivery times are posted for viewing before ordering. I only learned of it after placing the order and received the confirmation email.

Let me know if I'm missing the place/page where it's posted. Because otherwise I was planning to write to them to recommend it to be more prominently displayed.

And thank you all for your replies. I'll be more careful the next time I need a book in a specified time frame.

Scott T. - When I ordered my books from the PBS Market, I didn't see any shipping and delivery estimate anywhere, other than that the books would be shipped via USPS Media Mail.  I did, however, see a statement that my payment would be processed within 1 business day, and it actually took 4 days (if memory serves, I ordered the books early on a Friday afternoon and the payment wasn't processed until Wednesday or Thursday of the following week).  The books weren't shipped until the week after the payment was processed, and they didn't arrive at my home until about 2 weeks later.  Yes, Media Mail takes a while, which is why the 2-week shipping didn't bother me.  But while the process was in the hands of PBS (processing the order, processing payment and initiating shipping), it took FAR longer than I expected, and I don't remember anything being stated when I ordered the books that it could take more than 10 days just to get the order processed and the books shipped out.  So, yes, I was surprised.

If you click on What's This? On the PBS Market Main Page, it explains all of the market policies.

Ok so,

Yes, I do understand the difference between business days and calendar days and how this relates to shipping timetables. My concern was that I didn't have the info before ordering.

Mary, thanks for pointing out the link. When clicking on it I do see that then all of the info is clearly displayed. I'm wishing I had done so. Still, instead of a question mark, it could be a link that says something like 'information and policies'. I would have been more likely to have clicked that as I usually don't click on the question marks unless I have an active question. I'm going to recommend this to PBS.

Anyway, I would still consider ordering from PBS, I'll just reserve it to books I want to read eventually and not for those I need soon. I still do appreciate this site and want to support it

Scott T. - Yes, I realize that, which is why I specified that it said it would take 1 business day.  Ordering on a Friday, I would have expected the order to be processed on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest.  Not Wednesday or Thursday, with the order shipping out a week later.

Not sure why you're being so snarky.  I haven't said anything offensive or rude in relating my own experience with the PBS Market.  You're being overly defensive.

When I ordered from the Marketplace, I was also surprised and disappointed by how slow the process was on the PBS side of things.

I just placed another order with the marketplace. Here is the exact wording from the website:

"Your PBS Market Super Seller book(s) will be shipped 7-10 days after your purchase. You will receive an e-mail when your order ships.  Books are mailed via USPS Media Mail and typically take 4 to 14 business days to arrive."

Note that the website says 7-10 days while the confirmation email says 7-10 business days.

The books I ordered were Overstocks.

It's an outside company / third party fulfilling the orders, not PBS themselves, is that correct?

Be sure to send in your feedback to the official team! I think these are valid issues and while the information is available, if the timeline is going to keep them from getting more orders then they might want to know so they can think about reworking how this is done! We love PBS, and they love us and care what we think!

Actually it is two different third party sellers. One of them sells newer books at slight discounts, the other one sells somewhat older books at massive discounts.  The latter is a company I have done business with in the past and they ship very slowly. Kind of like Book Closeouts which I have also noticed is very slow.

My last order with the PBS Market, the new books I ordered on 6/5 just arrived two days ago and the older book I ordered that same day hasn't arrived yet.

Thanks for the information Bren.

I do understand that they can't control shipping times once the book is mailed but processing times of a week or more seems long to me. But maybe I'm spoiled after using Amazon and B&N. I just ordered a few books through B&N super saver shipping (or whatever B&N calls it) and they were mailed the same day.
