Sorry for being a week off!  Had too many hassles with my Dad's medical stuff.

I haven't had a chance to test these out yet.  I hope to try these tomorrow.

This is the longer one:

http://www.themeditationpodcast.com/episodes/tmp_02.mp3

(also available at iTunes)

This is a shorter meditation called "Loving Kindness" (7 minutes long):

http://www.oprah.com/rys/omag/flash_200103/med_kindness.jhtml

(I listened to this one through.  It's more of a guided meditation.  See what you think.)

Gives a try.  Post your feedback once you've tried them out.  Maybe you

will find that you like these better than the the first group.  Or maybe you like those and not these.  You might even like to mix it up.  Just do what feels right :)

Post your thoughts below...

Are you meeting the goal you set for yourself?

How are you doing with the meditations?

and this is the shorter one

I tried out the short one (the 7 minute one). I think maybe I'm in the wrong mood for the "loving kindness" because i was not relaxing. LOL. I think I'm too wound up at the moment. I guess that REALLY means I need to "chill out" and listen to it again!

Sometimes that happens to me.  I end up more grumpy after I meditate.

Side question:  I was thinking about this today.  Do you think reading is a form of meditation?  I was thinking about how sometimes I get so involved in a book that all there is is me and the story.  I might even look up after an hour of reading and not even realize I had been sitting so long reading.  What do you think?  It does take a certain amount of focus.

Meditation is looking within, reading is looking outside the self, into a world of often distracting thoughts, focusing on anything but your inner self. Meditation is not "just" about finding a peaceful place to distract the mind.     That peaceful place is just the beginning. Think of it this way, starting the car and warming the engine is a mere beginning to the actual drive itself. If I may make a suggestion, an excellent book to give advice is "A path with heart"  by Jack Kornfield.

I just tried the shorter 7 min. one.  I don't know if it was just me or if she was just talking too fast but I couldn't really get into that one for some reason.   I seemed to get easily distracted.  I'll try it again another day though and see if it goes better.

When it was over though I just continued to sit and meditate in the quiet.  That seemed to go alot better.  Maybe I just needed some quiet right now.

I downloaded the longer iTunes one but I haven't put it on my ipod yet or listened to it.  Maybe I'll give that one a try tomorrow or even later on today.

Robey, absolutely!  Everyone is welcome to join and chat about it :)  The first group of meditations can be found in this folder too.

Malindah, I haven't done the longer one yet, but I could not get into the loving kindness short one.  I have trouble with visualizations though.  I get stuck trying to see it in my head and then I'm behind.

Hope to try the longer one later on.

Bill, good point.  But, what of in the form of, what do they call it, an active meditation (that may not be the proper term)?  it's where you take a task and then focus completely on it--like washing dishing.  You keep focused on each part of it, keeping your mind on each thing as you do it.

Hi Melody

That is called "mindfulness". It is slightly different than meditation, it's purpose is to keep you focused on the present and seeing the beauty and sacredness in daily activities.  Meditation is for the purpose of turning the mind inward.

I gave the longer iTunes one a try yesterday.  I really like that one.  I liked relaxing one body part at a time and I actually made it through the entire thing.

I was so relaxed afterwards.  I'll definitely do this one again.

Malinda, I finally got to the long one today.  I also liked it.  It was similar to a meditation I did years ago and now can't find the cassette.  I thought this one was very relaxing.  It made me want to just rest a little afterwards.

I was really bad last week.  I was on my period which may have had something to do with it.  But, I could not settle down to meditate.  Which is amazing since I could be found starring at the walls several times, but actually doing the meditation seemed to be too much work.  LOL  I'm trying to refocus this week.

Anyone else having trouble staying with it?
