Does anyone know if I can use PBS Postage to send out  a swap book. I do't think it's possible, but I wanted to double check before I make the trip out to the post office.

Patricia, other ppl have posted about doing this using the Mail to a Friend thing and posting a dummy book to their bookshelf:

(1) they post a book that is VERY numerous in the system, like one of the top 50 posted books on the Top 50s list under Community, using the ISBN from the list there (be sure to use a book from the top 50 posted--not top 50 Wish Listed or requested--books!)

(2) they then click the book title on their bookshelf to get to the book details page

(3) on the right of the book details page will be a link "Mail to a friend"

(4) then you can enter the address and use printed postage for the wrapper.

(5) when the other person receives you can mark it received from your account page.

There aren't any credits involved in mail to a friend swaps, so this seems to work well for ppl who want to generate postage paid wrappers to send swap books.

Hope it works for you, and someone tell me if I have described this wrong. I haven't done this myself, but I wanted to put the info here and save Patricia a trip to the PO :)

Hmm. It never occurred to me to do the dummy book thing for a WL book swap. I have one to mail this week and I figured I'd just have to get DC at the post office.  I'll have to do this trick.

If it's a non-WL swap book, I just post it to my shelf and then mail it to a friend right away.  Then I just mark it received when I get my credit back from the games moderator.

I do this BOB trades too when they're over 13oz and I don't want to go to the post office.

Huh... I never thought about the Mail to a Friend thing. If it works it would certainly solve my post office issue. I'll try it in a few hours when I get off work. Thanks for the info Liese!

I do the custom DC label under MY ACCOUNT at the top of the PBS page.

I use the mail to a friend feature all the time for my swap books.

This worked perfectly. Thank goodness I don't have to go to our crowded post office anymore to end swap books. Thanks everyone!

Heidi, thanks for the tip on custom DC.  I use mail to friend for swaps, but I think custom DC would be better when it's a WL book since you can't post it to your shelf and then say mail to a friend without it being offered to someone.

Glad it worked for you Patricia. :)

It wasn't my idea--someone else posted about it at some point and I thought -hey, that's not bad and made a note of itBcs Custom DC is great and I used it before Printed Postage but you can't use Printed Postage with Custom DC (...yet?).  And I do love Printed Postage.  Works great for me.

Lisa, when the book is WL you just use a different book's ISBN number (one with lots of copies) to do the mail to a friend thing, and just wrap the real book you want to mail.  i use Custom DC and it works fine for me, but it only gives you DC, it doesn't give you printable postage - so you have to use stamps or take it to the PO.
