I am doing my first deals and have 3 books to send at once, 2 of which are hardcovers.

I have an old Amazon box lying around, and I was wondering if I could put the books in the box, print the PBS postage, and put it in my home mailbox?

If this won't work, please let me know the best way to ship these 3 together, either using the box or with suggestions for alternate packaging that will work.

Yes, you can do this.

It depends on your carrier.  If you are sending a package PM (or Express), then they will pick it up (along with anything else you toss in) if it is scheduled via the USPS carrier pickup page.  If there is no PM (or Express) package, the carrier can refuse to pick up outgoing mail from your home mailbox (as I've heard from some people here).
