I have a scale so I correct this before I print the label...but if I had no scale & did not correct the error...would the USPS re-weigh and catch the shortage?

No, I don't think so. It would probably go the the person you mailed it to with postage due.  You can post this in the Postal Questions  thread to get accurate answer.

I have a scale too, but if I didn't I think I'd just send all my MMPB's with $2.13 in postage, rather than accidently short it and have it end up in post office hell.

I weigh the book, see that the weight is several ounces more then reported, I end up padding the weight amount to cover the wrapping supplies I would be using.

I noticed today that there's a "Wrapped book" and "book only" selection for the weights now. I wonder if that'll be added to the database to try to help out with this issue.
