I have about six trade size books to mail.  Being the blonde that I am, I printed postage (including DC) from PBS for each book.  I know you can finagle printing paper to actually cover the trade size book and NOT tape on the book, but I was wondering something.  If I use a regular manila envelopes, would I be able to just tape the printed postage onto the envelope or will the weight change so much that the postage would change?

I hope this makes sense....it's been a long day :)

Thanks,
Nicole

If the weight changes the price, you can add regular stamps to make up the difference.  You could also have them weigh it at the PO and have the clerk affix the difference in postage.

I use manilla envelopes for trade PB and hardcover books all the time. If you're sending trade PBs, then you're probably between 7 oz and 1 lb, so you're already paying Media Mail rate anyway. Adding the weight of an envelope is unlikely to put you over the 1 lb mark.

I put tape across the bottom back of the envelope, where it's glued shut. I then put the book in and fold down the top of the envelope (so the book can't slide from end to end) and tape that in place. Then add the address label and it's good to go.

Nicole - whenever you use the regular manilla envelope, please make sure to fold and tape it until it is snug against the book. If the book is allowed to move around in the envelope it will often tear its way through.

I use them all the time. I just print the 1 page lable option and tape to the package.  But like Melanie said: don't just let the books flop around in there. It shouldn't up the postage since a manila envelope ways very little. But if it does you can add as stamp.

Also if it has a metal clasp, put a bit of tape over the claw thingies inside so it doesnt scratch the cover of the book,. Those suckers can be sharp. Better yet cut it off the envelope completely.

I use the swapadvd.com also and when I have deals I add the "freebie DVD in the same envelope using the PBS with DC printout that does not include the freebie.  I take it to the po to make sure it has the correct postage with the edition and it ALWAYS does.  But the books are heavier than DVDs.  I mail books in envelopes all the time and they always have to correct postage when I use PBS
