Bertie, I don't know right off, since I don't care for PDF's myself, so don't look for them.

What kind of books are you looking for? Freebies, places to buy? Any subject in particular?

It depends on what type of Nook. I have had problems with the formatting of PDFs. Often there will be just a few lines per page. I think they can be converted in Calibre. (I've ended up reading them on my desktop or tablet.). I personally look for ePub formats.

According to Wikipedia, Nook does read PDF.  Like the others said above, I wouldn't suggest PDF format for any EReader, though, since they often have formatting problems.

Knowing what kind of books you are looking for will help us send you to the right place.  Here's a couple of places that keep copies of out-of-copyright books, like Grimm's Fairytales, Teutonic Mythology, Wizard of Oz, and others:  archive.org and gutenberg.org .

I am looking for western romance or modern romance. I like authors like  Jodi Thomas,  Kristen Hannah,  Linda Howard, Leigh Greenwood  just to name a few.

And can e-pub be downloaded into the nook,  I have a nook  simple touch

I am at this point looking for free books to download.

Yes. The Nook is very happy with ePubs. I side load mine using the USB cord. (I use Calibre to help sort and load them. But they can be loaded directly or through ADE.). The side loaded books show up in a separate directory on the nook. There is My B&N Library and My Documents. So there will be two lists.

Do check to see if your library has eBooks. Many libraries have a strong romance eBook section. Most libraries use ADE DRM. You would need to register your computer and Nook with Adobe. But the Nook is happy with Adobe ePub format. Unfortunately, that format requires our computer to be a middle man between the Nook and the library. We cannot download directly to the Nook.

There's AllRomance.com, they have all kinds of Romance for free, some pretty racy and explicit, so buyer beware. You'll need to open an account, before you can get the freebies. DRM free with various formats available. They have 549 listed as Free.

I've sorted the free ones Here.

I've never had any problems with any of their books.

Many publishers offer a couple of free books every month. Ellora's Cave and Samhain do. Two Christian publishers do. And the University of Chicago press offers one book a month.

ETA There is another thread of free books under the Love and Romance forum.
